Hi everyone,
Frequent NY visitor, frequent Broadway viewer. The problem is, I usually only do musicals.

Last month I saw one of my first plays, August - and loved it.

I'm bringing my mom in the first week of May to see some shows, and I think I'd like to try 2 more plays..

Any recommendations on which 2 I should go see, based on storyline and performances? I'd prefer to see something on limited run that I wouldn't be able to see again in the summer when I come back..

Suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

Blithe Spirit for sure, and if your Mom hasn't seen August, go see it again! It's much more fun to watch/analyze the second time around.

Although I haven't seen it, i've had a lot of people tell me 33 Variations is wonderful. Also, I know someone that saw God of Carnage and said while the play was not really all that gripping, Marcia Gay Harden is worth seeing for her performance. It's tough to beat August: Osage! Try maybe Blithe Spirit too if you like that quirky british humor. Plus it has Angela Lansbury!! lol

And also, I totally agree with BNN! August is much more fun the second time around to analyze!!!

Musicals ARE "Plays"

I think you mean "Straight plays"

Sorry, I should have mentioned - Blithe Spirit is a given. My mother adores Angela Lansbury.
I thought about August again too. Especially since it sounds like that is the tail end of Estelle Parsons run..

So maybe just one more. 33 Variations sounds like it may be a good idea?

Do not miss Blithe Spirit, you'll be a bad son of you do.

God of Carnage, Joe Turner, Mary Stuart and one of the Norman Conquests plays, if you can.

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

If you want to be adventurous try the EXCELLENT Exit the King. It might be a little out there for you, but give it a chance and it could surprise you.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

It's a shame BECKY SHAW will be closed already. But, I vote seeing AUGUST again and, if not, GOD OF CARNAGE will be entertaining as hell if nothing else.
