I can't thank you enough for providing us this link. It was simply sensational -- especially her career montage at the end. For all of us that are guilty for having started to take her and her work for granted... this little profile puts it all back into perspective as to why she is. Estupenda!
Off topic -- but thanks to those audience members who filmed La LuPone's ANNIE GET YOUR GUN and GYPSY at Ravinia. Both of these productions were never filmed profesionally and it is their bootleg footage that is used on this profile. Kudos to them for providing us archival footage that wouldn't exist otherwise.
It's incredible footage of Miss Patti in her early professional years and beyond! For those of you who have a chance to see her perform in a town near you.... do it. Her brilliance, professionalism and sheer force of nature will never be seen again! "I don't know how to quit you Miss Patti!" from Roman in Austin, Texas..
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
Thank you so much for this! Somethings I noticed: I kind of knew this from there being so many great book scenes in Gypsy, but wow does Patti amaze me in her ability to not only command each role she takes on in musical theater, but also in straight-plays. Some of those scenes were so amazing to see, especially the really early LuPones. And I also wanted to say how crazy it is that I have seen Patti perform Rose's Turn twice live and once on that site (well, twice now on that site if you include this) and every SINGLE time I see it, it looks nothing like what I have seen before. At all. The first few seconds of Rose's Turn on here, I actually thought that it wasn't Patti because I'm just so used to (a) the recording and (b) what I remember her doing the two times I saw it. So yeah, kind of amazing that each time it comes from a completely different place to just blow you away.
