What songs did oyu come to know, only to find out later that they were from Broadway?

For example, my mother loved "Here's That Rainy Day." I used to hear versions of it all the time. I oly found out later that it was from a short-lived Broadway show (6 performances) called "Carnival in Flanders."

I took a friend to see Damn Yankees and she told me she never knew "Whatever Lola Wants" was a showtune until that night.

"One Night in Bangkok" from Chess

I always love to tell people that's a showtune. Blows their mind. re: Songs You Didn't Know Were From Broaday

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

I have a lot of friends who didn't know that "Seasons of love" was 1. Called "Seasons of love" (They thought it was "something something minutes") and 2. Didn't know it was from Rent

My mom used to sing "A Bushel and a Peck" to me when I was little. I didn't see Guys and Dolls until middle school.

'Together Wherever We Go'. My sister had a Pinky & Perky single and that was... the A-side, I think (the other side was 'Long-Haired Lover From Liverpool'). I had no idea where it came from. Then I encountered 'Gypsy', and finally "including the cow" made sense to me. ^_^

Yes, "Feeling Good" is from "Greasepaint." So is "On A Wonderful Day Like Today."

I had fun telling a friend a little while ago that Aquarius is from Hair.

Well, I heard "Send in the Clowns" quite a bit growing up and couldn't understand why anyone liked a song with such odd lyrics. Of course I found out long before I actually saw "A Little Night Music" that it was from a musical, but I also gained a new-found appreciation for it when I got to see it in its proper context!

I didn't know "We Need a Little Christmas" was from MAME until about six months ago.

"I'm going to wash that man right out of my hair" from South Pacific. When I was growing up, that was a shampoo commercial...

I knew the song She Loves Me, which I always thought of as a 1960's popular song. And I knew the show She Loves Me (but obviously not very well), which I knew was a "period piece". So when I was cast in it, I was surprised to find out the two were related. Duh! But somehow every night that song stil stood out to me as not belonging to the show -- style or sound wise.

I never knew that Anything you Can Do (I Can do Better) was from Annie Get Your Gun.

I also didn't know that Put on a Happy Face was from Bye Bye Birdie.

"I'm going to wash that man right out of my hair"

You may want to edit that and include the correct musical.

Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.
