A big wiggly road that goes right downtown and throws off the otherwise tremendously organised block system. re: How would you describe Broadway....?

Too broad of a question, but I'll try. It's not only a geographical area... but a state of mind. It means singing, dancing, acting. Broadway is a wish of actors, actresses, singers and dancers. Broadway is to plays and musicals as Hollywood is to television and film. Broadway is NYC... NYC if Broadway. from RC in Austin, Texas.... (p.s. I finally think I've got my avatar back... it's Carol Burnett... imitating Norma Desmond in her television show.)

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Sorry RC, I have to disagree with your last statement. NYC is so much more than *just* Broadway. Ad as much as I love Broadway, it's kind of insulting to brush over everything else that New York is by saying "NYC is Broadway". It's an integral part of New York, but it's not all there is to the city.

thats true, jordan girl. NYC is so much more than Broadway. Nor is Broadway the defining aspect of NYC theatre. Dont forget off BW and off off BW productions as well.

"it's not only a geographical area... but a state of mind"

The term "state of mind" works.

It's also my escape and my little piece of heaven....unless someone makes me sit through "The Lion King" or "La Cage" again.

A place where dreams come true for $120 a night.

Or I could be confusing it with that "massage parlor" on 8th Ave and 42nd.

Musical Theatre at its best!

Oh for goodness sakes... Broadway and NYC complement each other in many ways..hence my comment. Broadway is one large piece of the NYC puzzle. Nowhere in my comment did I suggest it was the only one or the primary one. I think most people can understand that. Well...most people. from RC in Austin, Texas

Well, let's see.

Broadway is NYC... NYC if Broadway.

Sorry, but yes you did. Well, if you had typed the s rather than the f you would have. There's a big difference between what you said initially and saying it's a large piece of the NYC puzzle.
