You didn't specify if its a matinee day or a regular evening performance day.

Big difference for her.

For matinee? You're going on a Saturday right? I'd say get there before 12pm since the show is at 2pm. Good Luck in meeting Steph :).

This is just one person's opinion, but waiting outside the theater for a performer before a show probably isn't going to come across the way you want it to. While I think the stage door situation after a show has gotten way out of hand, at least the actor has the show behind them.

She's going to get to the theater thinking about all the things she needs to do both physically and mentally to put on a great show. When you are talking to her, that's where her mind is probably going to be, not on whatever it is you are saying. If it's a quick "I think you are amazing" that's no big deal, but if it's a 5 minute rant, there's a good chance she's going to be wondering how long you are going to continue before she can go to work. Obviously I'm not speaking for Stephanie, but I have had first hand conversations with actors put in this position.

You're going to do what you're going to do, but that's my 2 cents.

I saw a Sunday show via Lotto and had nothing to do but study before the show so I went and sat around that area and I saw her like 45 minutes after lotto or so, walking in. hope that helps?

If you MUST bother the actors do NOT do it before the show.

But, very often actors do not leave the theatre after the matinées.

Ugh. Obnoxious fangirls.

I agree with BrianS in this situation. It's different for every actor but just leave them alone, regardless!

When I stage doored after the final performance of The Pirate Queen in Chicago Stephanie was SOOO nice! She came out and said "Now everyone put your caps back on your sharpies, or they're gonna dry out." She is one of the nicest actors I have ever met. I will make my pic with her my avatar again. We both look FEROSH in that pic.

I saw steph walking down the street going to the sunday mat. about an hour before the show... I was walking to sunday about ten till 2. I told her to break a leg, I think she thought it was funny that someone noticed her on the street.

Anywho I did meet her before the show in Tampa when she was on tour. She was super sweet but we tried to keep it short. I did have something to give her otherwise I would have waited. Just keep it short and I'm sure she won't mind.

"... I was walking to sunday about ten till 2. I told her to break a leg..."

So it's your fault she sprained her ankle? :P

Steph is extremely nice to all her fans, but stage-dooring before a show is usually frowned upon. Even though Stephanie is nice enough to stop if you ask her, I wouldn't recommend doing it.

I have only stage doored before a show once. Me and my friend had seen Wicked in Chicago 3 times while Ana Gasteyer was in it, and all of those times she didn't come out the Stage Door. So the next time we went we decided to wait before, since we didn't have anything to do, and when she got to the door we said hi to her, and she asked us if we could come back after the show. She promised she would come out the Stage door that night.

You are right, I am sorry. I did not see the fine print on the ticket that states "This ticket entitles holder to see show AND have a meet and greet with all cast members." Sorry.

When I stage door I am very polite about it, because I do realize that they have other things that they could be doing besides signing autographs. If they do not want to sign my playbill, no big deal. I mean, I am a little disappointed, but in no way, shape, or form do I hold a grudge or anything like that. But if they do take the time out to sign my paraphernalia then I make sure I thank them profusely for taking time out of their lives to do so.

Ok, I wound up stage-dooring before and Stephanie was extremely nice about it, she got to the theatre about 1:08, and she actually said that was late for her.

For all of you giving negative input on this, would it of helped if I said....
I run a fan page for Stephanie on MySpace (which she knows about) and have spoken to her via E-mail several times? Because that is all true, it is not like I'm some random creep just going up to her.

Also, she didn't come out after, I'm happy I did do it.

On one hand, stagedooring before a show is kind of an imposition. On the other hand, so is stagedooring after the show, and so is running into them in the street and stopping to say hi. If you're polite, well-mannered, don't take up any more time than they're willing to offer, and gracefully accept "no" if that's what they choose to say, then it ultimately doesn't matter where you meet a person. Sure, stagedooring prior to a show could make them late to work, but so could saying "hi" in a grocery store. I don't quite know where I'm going with this. I wouldn't stagedoor before a show, and I hope it doesn't catch on, but I wouldn't condemn someone for doing it, unless they were a dick about it.

defyinggravity42694, I think it would have helped if you said that you run a fansite for her on myspace that she knows about and that you have talked to her via email before. Basically she knows who you are. That might have come across differently if you said those things. Otherwise it did come off as you just being another fan who wanted to pre show stage door. Which, by the way is something that I think is wrong to do.

I feel that actors like to use that time to get ready for a performance. Those who don't mind signing after a show usually prefer to do it after the show is done when it is their free time.

There are also actors who are VERY nice at the stage door after the show but the total opposite. A good example of this is Lea Salonga. I remember one night during the summer where I was leaning against the wall of the theatre right next to the stage door(the side that faces the Majestic. Not on the same side as the doors to the theatre) I was leaning against the wall listing to my Ipod not bothering anyone and no one bothering me etc. I saw some of the cast entering as I was standing there and treated it like no big deal and didn't talk to them or anything. Lea Salonga was walking in and there was a fan of hers there that tried to start a conversation/get an autograph with her. Lea went postal. She pretty much was reading them the riot act on why it was bad and rude to pre show stage door.

Granted, it was at this performance where at the stage door I literally was being smashed against the barricade by fans of Lea's from the Phillipines and she niceley told them to back up a bit "because there is a young man here who is gettin smashed against the barricade and is having trouble breathing." She then pulled me to the side and when the crowed died down she signed for me. And we both joked about how I shouldn't have had to go through that just for an autograph and that an autograph shouldn't involve any pain at all.

I had to read your post twice, I couldn’t figure out what you were doing on stage getting an autograph.
