What is Murphy doing?

Don't make me pick! Can't we just have a tie?

If I had to pick, I'd pick LuPone.

I can't think of any performance up against this one that I wouldn't pick Patti. But I'm searching.

You mean Drama Desk '08 re: Tony Awards '08: LuPone vs. Murphy

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Murphy's reportedly doing Follies.
But, you never know, YF may be a big hit and steamroll through.
My vote would be Murphy.

Patti's Rose is MILES better than Donna's performance in Follies.

I saw both performances, and I'd vote for Patti.

Oh no!!! Not a fight over whether Patti is eligible for a Tony. Will City Center be eligible to be considered for the Tony Award?

No, it wouldn't be, but if they do a short run in London, and then come back here....

...and Patti poisons Arthur Laurents' martini and then seduces whoever would be executing his estate.

If Gypsy came to Broadway I highly doubt it would be this season.

But crazier things have happened.

In my personal opinion, who's going to win the Olivier is much more pressing matter :)

I love how we're speculating about awards already. These are two productions that maybe won't even exist!

They are seriously trying to bring Follies to Broadway.
Also-Gypsy's going to London and will probably fare just fine. Patti will get her Olivier.

Well, if Gypsy transfers in this Spring, as rumored, Patti wouldn't be up this season anyway right?

What's the cut off date for Olivier awards?

Goth, you seem to have this fantasy, all be it a violent one between LuPone and Laurents...

Now, back to the topic. That would be one HOT Tony Award race.

"What's the cut off date for Olivier awards?"

Two days after Judi Dench opens in her fabulous new one woman show titled "There is Nothing Like a Dench" which will be a shut out for Best Actress.

Why do you think Patti's playing City Center?

When is Grey Gardens supposed to transfer? I've only heard the "2007-08" season, but that doesn't really say whether it'll come in before or after the Olivier cut off.

Oh I would just love it if La Murphy won over La LuPone, just for kicks... plus I like Murphy better.

If having to choose, I would think Sally would be leading and Phyllis:Supporting. Unless they are both considered leading. Donna was incredible.

For the record, neither Follies or Gypsy, as of yet, are set for a transfer.

This thread is me being facetious.
