I don't know about the matinee, but Richard Blake was on for the Sunday night show. The only understudies were Michelle Kitrell as Pilar and Tracy Jai Edwards as the D.A.
Hm, I thought Andy understudied Emmett. Does he understudy both? My memory is failing me. Though I'd pay to see Andy in anything, like something about God.
Yeah! Noah was SO SWEET at the stage door. Less than 1/2 the cast came out, and after all of them that did come out left, Noah was still out there talking to people. I would really love to see him as Emmett.
Noah's such a sweetheart. Saw him at Awesome 80s Prom, and he was absolutely hilarious. I emailed him following that and he wrote me a hilarious email back, and signed up for something on CastNoah, and he wrote me a personal little note back. He's such a nice guy, and he would be sooo sweet as Emmett. I feel the need to 'Aww' at the though.
Jerry Mitchell has made it quite clear within the company that there is no "first" and "second" cover system being implemented.
All understudies are rotated on an equal basis, and anyone that tells you any different is simply spreading untrue information.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I didn't know Noah understudied Emmett. That's cool. I have a big crush on him right now. I'd love to see him in a bigger role.
Also, does anyone know who plays Courtney? It's not listed in the CD booklet. Nor does it say who plays the store manager that sends Courtney on her break...
I am not sure who the 'official' understudies are, but I think things have been mixed up a bit. I saw an early preview, but don't remember seeing Leslie Kritzer listed as US for Paulette or Tracy Jai Edwards as US for Serena...yet they have both gone on in those parts.
I heard Tracy Jai was fierce as Serena, but has anyone seen Leslie as Paulette? I love me some Orfeh, but bet Lesie rocks.
I've seen Tracy Jai as Serena, and thought she was really good and had a really strong voice But I've never seen Leslie so I can't compare

She went on two times in a row in the role because Orfeh called out at the last minute due to a vocal mishap. Leslie was the only one who fit into her costumes, and quickly learned the track specifically for that circumstance.
The role will continue to be understudied by Gaelen Gilliland and Amber Efe.

Amber Efe covering Orfeh? I totally can't see that. Interesting. Amber Efe has an amazing voice I just can't imagine her in that part. Updated On: 6/28/07 at 08:24 PM
This thread caused me to have a dream in which I went to see Legally Blonde, which was playing at the Beaumont, and once I saw the understudy board that read Warner III will be played by Andy Karl I NEEDED to call C is for Company to let him notify the boards.
That was a sign I spend too much time here . . .

For those of you who mentioned Noah was the first understudy for Emmett...may I ask where you heard that? My dad was his director back in the day and my family still remain close friends with him. We were at the show about a week ago and as of then he wasn't sure whether he or Andy was first in line. I know that Christian Borle has a scheduled out coming up and I'm sure my dad would love to go back and see him, so I'm just looking for some dependable information. Thanks!
Edit: Forgot to mention...by first in line I meant he will be the first to cover when Borle is out...not that he will always go on and if he cannot it will be Andy...assuming the information regarding the "no first or second in line" is true.
I saw the original cast as is as well...which was great, but I'd kind of like to see some understudies too now...I wish there was some place that they posted scheduled vacations. Oh well And Action2: Tracy Jai is a swing so she covers many parts thats why you probably didn't see that she specifically covered Serena
Actually somethingwicked, according to my friend Gaelen Gilliland, Leslie is another Paulette cover. She just isn't listed in the playbill as a Paulette understudy. This is a direct quote from Gaelen in an email she sent me:
"for some reason they have 3 understudies for Paulette, added it some time in rehearsals, not sure why."
Also, they've just recently made Gaelen understudy for Enid too, but she isn't listed in the playbill as Enid understudy.
I'll check on it stageactor06, but Leslie has told everyone that's mentioned her going on as Paulette since it happened that it was a "one time only-type thing" (her words) and that she wouldn't be doing it again.
Perhaps she's still considered a "cover" because she knows the role and can perform it, but she gave me the impression that she won't be going on again in the future.

I think Leslie is the emergency cover for Paulette. She went on because she fit Orfeh's costumes (I don't know why costumes for Amber and Gaelen weren't ready but whatever).
I don't know what the deal is with costumes. Gaelen told me Saturday that the understudy costumes for Paulette STILL aren't done. I realize Orfeh has a good track record, but shouldn't they have had them done anyway once the show opened? Anything can happen.
