*claps hands* Michael was fantastic as Frankie! You are indeed correct wicked_mimi, John missed the matinee... I missed him... darn!

Michael was just great! I'm not particularly fond of Matthew Scott, his Pesci was alright. I think Michael does the cutest dance moves. In "Dawn (Go Away)" especially... way to move those legs! Women squeeled with delight when he did splits in "Beggin'."

I really can't see Dominic as Bob Gaudio... he doesn't really fit the character. I'm sure his voice is great... it's just... Gaudio... nahhh.

Dominic has an AMAZING voice but his Gaudio is too cocky.... much more a Tommy feel when Gaudio is suppose to be the non-Italian who has not been arrested or is "not into the drama!". Matthew Scott is VERY talented too. I saw him the first time he went on for Tommy and he did a great job. He just is sooo young for the part. He is a 24 year old covering for a 37 year old so it makes sense. I do feel no one could do Pesci as much justice as Longoria though.

Anyone know if he just missed the matinee or did he miss both shows today?

I think he missed the matinee... not sure of the evening performance... or it could be the other way around. But he also missed the wednesday matinee.

I can totally picture Dominic as Tommy. There's a certain innocence about Bob Gaudio where Daniel nails it right on. Dominic has really strong Italian features... just thought I'd throw that in heh heh.

Kaboodles041: Matthew Scott (as mentioned above) plays Joe Pesci when Michael goes on as Frankie Valli. Scott was not very convincing, IMO. Too bad Michael can't be cloned!

Can't he?

No, I suppose not. Stupid politics.

JLY is overrated as it is, I find Michael Longoria's impression of Pesci offensive (as in insulting). Some people seem to think he works harder than anyone else in the show and therefore deserves more money. That's absurd. He's no more hardworking than most of the people on Broadway (and I say most because there are some, like half the cast of Hairspray, whom seem to make it a point to perofm in as few no. of shows per week as possible).

That said, I can totally understand the frustration of missing a performer you want to see. Both times I saw Jersey Boys He was in, and as always I got my rush tickets at the last possible second. I would suggest catching a thursday performance. Oddly, that seems to be the night everyone shows up to work!

Pesci doesn't seem to have a problem with it.

John is doing his best. It is really a demanding role. I dont blame him for having to perform seven shows a week (if he exercises it). I also understand why people call him "divo"

But what can we do? All we have to do is understand him, cause he is doing the best he can. I am even praying that I could see him when I see the show (cause I got a Wednesday matinee ticket).

God Bless everyone.

I am so sick of John Lloyd Young and Josh Strickland being attacked on these boards. Both have amazing voices and are very talented.

i don't care one way or the other whether JLY is in the show or not, but if the show is so demanding or if he's under the weather, perhaps he needs to refrain from so many photo ops. It's up to the performer to pace himself.

You people are all meanies!

I don't believe I was ever attacking JLY (not that it was I or anyone who was specifically accused). When people say Patti, Carol, Sara Ramirez, LaChanze, etc. are divas, it's surely not an attack. Divo is merely the male equivalent.

In this sense using the word "divo" was taken as meaning they only come to work when they feel like it, which isn't a very nice thing to say. Maybe you didn't mean it that way but when you post it on a thread that is dealing with him missing a show it makes sense that others take it in that context.

It comes down to that John is allowed a seven show week, if he decides to take off the one show he is allowed. If he takes off more, he may be sick or something may have happened. I don't understand why he is put under such a microscope when other actors and actresses can take off more than one or two shows a week. Just because he is allowed a seven show week doesn't make him a 'divo'.

broadwaybum2: i hope you are right about getting someone else to play Frankie Valli at the matinees b/c the role is very difficult to sing eight times a week.

"They tend to clash personality-wise and aren't neccesarily friends in any way."

Please elaborate on this.

I agree the role is very demanding vocally. I say put Michael on matinees... thats just my two cents. heh heh. Updated On: 7/9/06 at 11:25 PM

broadwaybum2... not to sound like I don't believe you, but those who happen to be very close to the actors would respect their privacy and not talk about their personal lives. I've spent some time with the boys and they seem to have a pretty good professional relationship, but that's just me...

JLY can take a show off but Id be pissed if I had tickets for the one he missed, but thats the chance you take I guess.
I'd be nervous buying tickets for a Wed or Sunday afternoon.
