It annoys me that they didn't do a replacement Tony.

I hope that Drowsy wins Best Book but JB takes Best Musical.

I'm sad that Daniel Reichard was not nominated for Best Featured Actor. They forget the middle Seasons, but take the first and last. The other guys deserve noms as well!

How did PAJAMA GAME get a "Best Costume Design" nod. over WOMAN IN WHITE? I know a lot of you guys and gals do not like WOMAN IN WHITE, but you have to admit that the costumes were WAY better and more detailed than PAJAMA GAME. But, I am glad it got at least one nod.

I will be TOTALLY bummed if LaChanze does not win. I absolutely LOVE Sutton, but this is really a supporting role for her.

Like Patti is well, but just think this is LaChanze's Tony.

Ok, someone please tell me something...what was the point of starting a "Replacement Tony" catageory for the Tonys and then don't even have any nominees?

I agree. The tony replacement was like hype for nothing. And Though im hoping the big 3 (book, score musical) are going to The Drowsey Chaperone, I could see it being like last year: Chaperone get best book and Best Score and see Jersey Boys take Best Musical. Hope that doesnt happen though. I also can gurentee Sweeney Todd gets 5 Tony awards.

I'm absolutely thrilled about The Constant Wife. I saw it over the summer and loved it. Kate Burton was, in a word, fabulous.

I think THE COLOR PURPLE will win best musical, merely because it's the most marketable money maker of the bunch.

To whomever said Cynthia Nixon is a lock to win:

I would have said the same thing yesterday, but now that I see all 5 nominees are from closed shows, and that The Constant Wife was nominated for Best Revival, it could be quite the race. Kate Burton got glowing reviews for her performance.

I do think the chances of The Color Purple or Jersey Boys winning Best Musical are much greater simply because they're more commercial. When I attended both shows, I saw large groups of people there who hadn't been to the theatre in decades. When I went to The Drowsy Chaperone, it was a bunch of theatre lovers who enjoyed themselves in a somewhat exclusive half-full house. If the Oscars every year try to make the statement that movies should say something about society's ills, I think the Tonys every year try to say that theatre is accessible to everyone. What better way to say that than giving the nod to Jersey or Purple?

Also, while Patti was great, she didn't totally change the course of her show. I watched LaChanze evolve from a young girl to a tough woman and it was powerful, moving, and emotionally draining. That added to her true life triumphant return backstory is enough to put her over the edge. It'd be a shame if she didn't get it.

I wish I understood why many people thought La Chanze was brilliant, but I saw the show twice and never saw brilliance. I saw a suitable performance, but it's no where NEAR where the role of Celie needs to go. I blame the director.

I think people confuse the brilliance and amazing development of the character for LaChanze's work.

I completely agree.

You want to see a brilliant transformation? Watch Whoopi Goldberg in the film.

You want to see a nice attempt? Go see the musical.

No one can flat out say that Sweeney Todd is going to win five awards. I think the only safe bet is John Doyle winning best director. John Lloyd Young, LaChanze, and Jim Dale are all brilliant in their roles and could end up taking home a statue. I know the majority of you love this production, but that doesn't mean its going to take home everything.

Yes, it is a downer that they are not giving a replacement Tony the first year they have that award.

I'd think that Sweeney would also be a lock for orchestrations.

Frog Fans85 - You are right.... If Sweeney todd doesn't win orchestrations, something is wrong, seeing as the re-vamped orchestrations is the main selling point of the show. But, all of these acting awards and even the revival category are not a lock by any means.

What I am liking about the nominations this year is there really isn't anyone who is LOCKED into an Tony. It could go anyway. I am excited. I will be happy with anything that is made. I am trying to see all the musicals before the show, I've seen Color Purple which I loved, I think the woman playing Sophia was wonderful! We will see what happens.

I agree that Cynthia Nixon is not a lock. With the exception of Lisa Kron, any of the other four nominees could win.

I do think SWEENEY TODD and John Doyle are locks. I also feel HISTORY BOYS,Richard Griffiths and Nicholas Hytner are shoo ins.
