Can I talk too? I know you asked Em, but I saw it this past weekend as well.

Heather Laws was hilarious during that scene. She was just so neurotic and jittery. At one point, she was literally face down on the stage and my dad commented that she looked like a sacrificial lamb. I would have said more Anne Boleyn on the chopping block. She handled the lyrics wonderfully as well. I think having it on such a small stage made her performance that much better, because she could kind of pace back and forth and make it seem really natural than it would be on a giant stage. I think the end of the scene, once *SPOILER* Paul leaves and Bobby proposes, kind of threw me off, but her performance during the song was definitely hilarious.

Well, the question was asked specifically of you, so I didn't want to intrude. re: New Company Pictures

Ooooh, me three. I saw the show last night and thorughly enjoyed it. LuvEmcee. You reveiw was almost word for word my thoughts.
IMHO - the only weak spots in the showw were Walsh's "LWL" and "Another Hundred People". Your assessment on LWL is right on. Much too deadpan and uninnovative or her own. She TRIED to sing poorly to echo Strich. It just didn't work.
"AHP" was also weak vocally, I thought. Just not enough umph behind it from Angel. Personally I loved "Not Getting Married into Marry Me A Little. Both were amazingly done!
Thats my 2 cents

Really? I thought Angel was great, but everybody has off nights. Her scene with Raul was hysterical, IMO.

Oh, the Company photos are great!

I just talked to my uncle in Cincinnati, and he said that one of his friends saw Company over the weekend and thought that it was amazing.

The Playbill article about producers checking out the show. Cute, huh? re: New Company Pictures If I hadn't already switched my avatar today, I'd use it.

How can all of you say that it "looks boring"? This show is anything but boring and to say that it looks boring from a picture itself just seems foolish and silly.

I really liked the new sweeney, but i dont think this concept should be in every show.

Well, it's not every show. It's... maybe two. I doubt we have to worry about the actor/musician thing taking over Broadway or something. For one thing, it probably makes casting ridiculously tough.

It's very cute, Em. re: New Company Pictures I wonder if I can talk someone into making me an LJ icon... Updated On: 3/22/06 at 05:39 PM

I thought the same thing, too, at first, WickedGeek, but the same premise isn't used for both. I think it actually made more sense in Company. With all of the friends and girlfriends acting as orchestra behind Bobby, they were literally orchestrating his life. That's a very powerful thought.

It's totally easy and tempting to think John Doyle is just a one note director. But it's not as gimmicky as you'd think. I think it allows us to see the incredibly talented performers in this country and gives them a chance to challenge themselves.

I have to agree, and I was one of the most suspicious that the actor-musician thing would work again. I haven't seen this production of Company, but the way Isherwood described Being Alive suddenly made it make sense to me in a way it never has. If the instruments can do that for such a notoriously tricky transition, then by all means, use them.
