With all the talk yesterday about the Tony Awards eligibility decisions, I was wondering what are the top 4 shows you think will be nominated for Best Musical? Here are mine so far:
1. Jersey Boys 2. The Color Purple 3. The Wedding Singer (so much good buzz lately?) 4. Chita
Darling, it's obvious you're trying to create controversy by starting this thread and including Chita as your best musical choice.
In addition, we have at least 2 very active threads that your post could have gone in. But it's clear you like to be in the spotlight.
Take your conflicts to an already running thread.

Oh sorry. I only watched the Tonys once when I was younger (kind of new to the Broadway thing), and I guess I didn't realize the nomination was for Best NEW musical.
Well in that case, Chita all the way, baby! Best Musical we've seen in years.

I think it'll probably be a cold day in hell, but Lestat could turn it around. Movin' Out was creamed out of town and went on to be very successful and picked up a fair few awards and nominations.
And as far as Woman In White goes, no, it didn't get great reviews. But then, Chita aside, neither did The Dancer's Life.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.
Yes, but it wasn't negatively recieved. Woman in White got a very mixed-to-negative review from The Times (which doesn't matter in my mind) but also from numerous critics. It also is doing poor business and features a score from the bland Andrew Lloyd Webber. Chita's show got mixed reviews, but Brantley did say it was a must see show and gave it more pros than WIW. Other critics gave it similar reviews. It also stars a living legend who deserves to be a legend (unlike Lloyd Webber.) Updated On: 1/28/06 at 01:04 PM
Well sadly I think the Tony voters will probably see Chita's show and have a reaction somewhere along the lines of "Ms. Rivera, you're a legend. Who the hell put this show together?"

but Chita's show was ruled a Book Musical NOT a Special Event, which i dont understand at all - so do you think it has a chance at a nomination for Best Musical? and, does this mean that the race for Best Actress will include Chita with Patti, LaChanze, Maria Friedman? (that's distressing b/c that may mean Patti is not such a lock).
Don't f*ck with me fellas. This ain't my first time at the rodeo.
If Chita wins the Tony for playing Chita over Patti playing Mrs. Lovett, LaChanze playing Celie, and Maria Friedman playing whoever the hell she plays in that stupid Lloyd Webber show, not only is all heck going to freeze over, but the biggest catfight Broadway has ever seen is going to ensue. And y'all know Ms. LuPone isn't one to turn down a fight.

oh, duh - Foster that makes sense - but i just think there's so much sentimentality over faves like Chita that, well i dunno. it would have made a lot more sense to put her show in "Special Event" like Elaine Stritch's show a couple of years back (which, btw, was FAB-U-LOUS both in person - Dallas - and on HBO)

and for me, the last slot is wide open. Either The Woman in White (doesnt really have much of a chance, though), Tarzan (ehh...), or The Dancer's Life (Chita's a lock for a Best Actress nod but not so sure about the show itself).
I strongly believe The Color Purple will win Best Musical.
Give girlfriend a Lifetime Achievement Award, give the Acting award to whoever deserves it, and all will be happy.

I know how many nominees there are. The point I was making by listing more than 4 (and listing a SERIOUS wild card) is that it's not as weak a year as people seem to be thinking and Chita's show is in danger of not landing a nomination.

Same thing happened last year with THE FROGS. If it would have been deemed a revival, it would have definitely been nommed (as there were only three others). Chita's show was looking like it WOULD win the Special Event category, but now, Chita herself may be the only nom the show may get.
