According to legend, New York lore and two major Hollywood flicks, Macy's Santa is the real deal. And tomorrow, to the delight of millions of little children (not to mention the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court), the Santa in New York's great parade will be half of a same-sex couple. .....

One suggestion, tho... If the New York Times legal folk saw that someone on BroadwayWorld.com was posting NYT articles on this site, BWW could get in lots of copyright trouble. It's very nice of you to make it so easy for us to read the article without having to go to (or register at) the NYT site, but it might be better to just post a link.
Sorry, don't want to be a pain, and I'm pretty sure no one would get in trouble for posting the article here... But still, it's better not to post full text of copyrighted material.
Thanks, Tesse

Harvey is so eloquent and intelligent... last winter he did the post-show 'Broadway Cares' fund-raising pitch after 'Hairspray' performances and he gave the most moving speech, it was really beautiful. He's such a talented writer, too. I'd love to see him on CNN debating this against one of our great conservative minds...
I'm with you, Alex. Put Harvey on CNN immediately (flirting with Anderson, pointedly...) and let him take on just about anybody. Start with Mrs. Cheney, who conveniently pretends she doesn't have a lesbian daughter.

being a frothing neo-con warmongering imperialist dog, i often hesitate to comment in these threads about social issues. that said, i quite enjoy harvey's columns and think instead of being mrs. claus, he should have drressed the same but been singing "santa baby." the measure of what a class act harvey is can be seen in his response to the macy's statement. simple, concise and effective. would that more folks in the public eye (especially thoses on my side of the political fence) could exhibit such power and passion without resorting to vitriol. kudos, edna.
happy thanksgiving to all!

I'm appaled at Macys. There was no plans for Harvey to be riding with Santa in the first place. I think using the parade to make a point was brilliant of him. Anyways, he looked beautiful.
Unfortunately the point of the parade is to sell toys and CDs... that's all (thank God for the mute button on my remote- between Aaron Carter, the Lizzie McGuire girl, etc. I've heard enough tone-deaf teen idols today to last the rest of my life). I'd bet if Macy's thought that having a gay Santa would sell more Barbies they wouldn't think twice about it.
The whole spectacle is permanently stuck in 1955. I've never seen so many white teenage girls in one place in my life- what was up with the 700 (mostly blond) cheerleaders? And the all-female giant dance group at the end? They do actually have male cheerleaders at just about every college now. And I couldn't help but notice that NBC cut to a commercial while the one black marching band they showed was in the middle of their performance.
I did enjoy the 'Little Shop' number, and the kid from 'Boy From Oz' was good too. I overslept and missed 'Wicked'- didn't they perform too? I should have just changed the channel after the Broadway numbers...

BroadwayWorld could get in a lot of trouble for a lot of things involving copyright on this site. What about all the little photos that we all use as icons? You think Rob owns all of those?!?
