What was that comment all about? I heard just a part of the story on the news this morning as I was getting ready for work and figured I must have heard wrong
I guess I didn't hear it wrong after all. I can't imagine even thinking something like that. And didn't Rosie's mother die of cancer? She should know better but, I find it not at all difficult to believe she said it.
She also said she didn't intend for the staffer to take the comment the way she did. How else are you supposed to take a comment like that?! That was such a horrid thing to say.
Also, how is she going to be on Oprah today if she's due in court all day? Is she just in court in the morning and flying out this afternoon? Just wondering.

"Dreams, I've lived within my dreams now it seems I've awakened and they're real, pinch and feel. If one day I walk upon this stage from these wings and play underneath this dome, and if I sing with all my heart, I'll be home"
Oh I see, it's already been taped, I thought she was doing a real interview. Sorry.

It's not even gonna be a real interview-type show (no juicy gossip). Today's show is dedicated to celebrities' favorite hot-spots, including Bachelor Bob and Cindy Crawford...and Rosie, too.
evidently in a meeting rosie told a magazine staff member that her silence about something was tantamount to lying and that, "you know what happens to people who lie they get sick and they get cancer. If they keep lying, they get it again." the woman to whom she was speaking is a breast cancer survivor. she asked rosie, "Your mother died of breast cancer. Was she lying?" and rosie replied, "yes."
man i couldn't make this up if i tried! and rosie did apologize to her...outside of the courtroom yesterday in front of the cameras for something that happened a year ago.
now we can count out cancer victims as future revenue for taboo. maybe we can get nancy reagan to say that ronny was a big boy george fan, that would clear off another whole section of the population.

OK...I'm willing to guess a context in which it's not as awful as it sounds.
I know...futile...cause no matter how you slice it, it's awful.
What if...
What if Rosie believes that people who lie are holding things down inside them, things that are toxic. And all those lies taken together create sickness...such as cancer. There are many people who believe this very thing.
So...there's a context.
Do I believe that to be that case? Doubt it. Do I think that NO MATTER WHAT you don't say that to a cancer survivor??? Yes.
"I'm so looking forward to a time when all the Reagan Democrats are dead."
How about the woman calling Rosie the C word that rhymes with hunt and undermining her at every step? A quote can be taken out of context and let's face it, the press is out to crucify Rosie and any many here seem to be happy to egg them on.
Conservatives attacked the Reagan mini-series without seeing it saying it distorted the truth to fit an agenda- Fox News does that daily.
It is public record Jessica Lynch was not in danger in the hospital- but the tv movie makes it look like a 30s melodrama.... will people screech about truth distortion there?
Wake up people, the conservative movement has an agenda- and anyone gay is their enemy. Watch the new abortion law be interpreted as a way to make ALL abortions illegal. And expect gays to become the new enemy in the witchhunt. After all, the court invovled in the Rosie case ruled that her lover could not claim spousal confidentiality and had to testify against her.
Was what Rosie said something I would say to a cancer survivor? No, probably not. But no one here knows the whole story. Why contribute to the destruction of her?
Honestly, I'm going to side with Rosie on this one. Yes, it was a comment in very bad taste but, honestly, some people can deal with jokes that are in really bad taste and some cannot. As one who throws out the more than occasional off-color bit of humor, I can say that when you say something hoping to be funny that hurts someone's feelings, all you can do is say you're sorry and that you were kidding. Not to say she should have said what she said but I can understand saying something meant in humor (albeit obvious bad taste) and coming off badly. Rosie's known to have a brash sense of humor, seems like she might have just said something to someone who wasn't up for the joke.
Something like that is, unfortunately, typical of Rosie. When she does not things her way she gets mad and when she gets mad she spews out these horribly hurtful comments.
It's sad that there are people posting messages here defending her and saying that teh dislike toward her is because she is a strong and empowered woman and therefore threatening in some way.
Those are not the words of a strong, intelligent woman. they are the words of a childish person who lashes out with venom. Let's pay our admiration to the women in thsi world who are truely strong, intelligent and know how to use their brains to accomplish things and gain power instead of childish tantrums and hurtful remarks
no freakin' way folks. this was in a meeting in which rosie used that as a threat to try to goad a woman into admitting something. it's especially heinous when you consider the last part of that comment, "and if they keep lying they get it again," seeing as how the woman has suffered through cancer already.
and a vast right wing conspiracy to attack rosie? even hil doesn't use that one much anymore. to tie reporting on rosie's case to partial birth abortion, jessica lynch and reagan? dolly, time for your meds. trust me, my fellow aryan race homophobic war mongering neo-cons and i have much bigger targets than rosie...we're focussing on the true evil: spongebob squarepants!

It would be important to know if she *knew* that the woman was a cancer survivor. It's the difference between a tasteless comment that may have arisen out of her own issues and outright cruelty if she DID, in fact, know. Not a comment I'd like to have to take ownership of in any form...but I think knowing the context is significant.

I can tear out throats with the best of them and I've joked non-stop with close friends who are very ill but who make light of their dire state to bring some humor to the situation. It's more of the nasty way it was directed to the other party. I've been thinking a great deal about Rosie since these posts and TABOO troubles have arisen. I've seen her change a persons life with the writing of a check or remembering someone's name after a show who she met at intermission and send that fan into the might with a huge smile and an even bigger memory of meeting their beloved icon. I have also seen her destroy someone for no good reason or go after a weaker enemy with the intent to kill. Now we all have that in us, or at least some of us do, it's how we choose to DEAL with these emotions that speaks of our character.
