Hello,
Our Local community theatre (DESERT OPERA THEATRE) has decided to put on Les Mis: School Edition. And i Haven't seen it yet, i bought the Soundtrack and i Am in LOVE with it! THE songs rule! But i have some questions which i hope someone can answer:

1) Is Javert Black (African-American) Becuase his voice seems like he would be.

2) Are any of the songs in the original version not in the School edition? If so which?

3)Are any of the songs transposed to better fit younger voices?

4)Is this show an Opera, Operetta or a straight out Musical?

5)Are there any other significant changes from the show that affect the music?

6)I know that this version has been abriged to a 2-hour run, So i ask how long is the original version?

7) What would be the age group of the Main Characters?
a)Eponine
b)Cosette
c)Marius
d)Javert
e)Jean ValJean
f) Mr./Mrs. Thernadier
Les Miserables : School Edition VS. Full Normal VersionWhat would be a good audition song for the part of Javert?

Thank you to all who respond. This will be a Very helpful questionaire.

P.S- Why are the two songs "Who Am I" And "One Day More" The same song with two different lyric tracks? I would understand if it were a reprise, but according to MTI, the song "One Day More" is in the show but "Who Am I" is not.

1) And no, Javert is not black, or at least traditionally cast as such. In the novel, he is of Roma (gypsy) background, though this isn't acknowledged in the musical.

2) No full songs are cut, though some songs are cut in half or more.

6) 3 hours. It was 3 hours and 20 minutes before the show was shortened to cut down on overtime 2 years ago.

7) This will help you out.

Because all the songs in Les Mis are the same with different lyrics. Occasionally a blast of trumpets interrupts to make the audiene think they're hearing different music but they're really not..

javert's suicide is a good audition piece, or stars (if you can sing it)
