Aida...but then again, it wasn't really percieved well when it opened (well, from the critics anyway).

The Producers. But then again I didn't see Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, and I heard most people say that the hype was true about them, and hasn't been the same since they left, which I completely believe. Those two are amazing.

how/where did you see WICKED in the summer of 99?

I don't believe it was even written yet in 99!

It's putting it mildly to say that Wicked the musical, strayed a bit from the book, it's not even remotely the same, with it's neat little bow-tied happy ending. Meanwhile,my answer would be, just about everything that gets hyped on this board. You blow people and shows up to such unfathomable heights, that it's never going to be as good as the way it's gushed about here. In fact, often times, it's the polar oppposite. And don't make me list examples, as you know I will and I just don't have the time to sit here and defend myself about why I don't think all the crappy shows and mediocre "talent" is worth raving about.

Speed, evwicked meant Rent. I saw Rent this past June in Boston, and it was amazing. Sorry it didn't live up to your expectations re: Overhype

The producers, hands down. Good, funny but not GREAT!!!!! as I expected.

So my dear you think you can get to Broadway. Well, let me tell you something. Broadway has no room for people like you. Not the Broadway I know. My Broadway takes people like you and eats them up and spits them out. My Broadway is the Broadway of Merman, and Martin, and Fontaine, and if you think you can build yourself up by knocking other people down... ...GOOD LUCK... Seinfeld

I am going to have to say Hairspary, it was good, but not at all as good as I expected it to be!

The Lion King

Still think it has one of the most amazing opening numbers ever but overall I was disappointed.

The Producers.

Honestly, it's fun, Mel Brooks, Susan Stroman, blahblahblah......but nothing can live up to that kind of hype. And I saw it with "THEM" when they came back to the show last winter, and frankly the audience really disappointed me: no one seemed to be responding to the story/music/performances but instead to the EVENT of seeing those two, the adlibs, etc. Maybe I'd feel differently had I not been practically sitting on the ceiling of the St. James. I liked it a lot, but I wasn't blown away.

The Producers. Saw it on Wednesday. I'd heard it was a must see from a lot of people, but I never decided to actually see it until Hunter Foster was cast as Leo Bloom. Hunter was adorable, but I didn't like the show at all. I will never understand the hype.

And Wicked.

I was so dissapointed in Wonderful Town. Spent a fortune on tickets and parking etc and it was interminably boring. I felt like it was such a waste of time and money.

The Phantom of the Opera remains by biggest disappointment in a theater. My most recent one was Last Easter, though it wasn't neary as bad (or expensive.)

~Some of it was funny, but overall I thought it was boring and overdone

Hairspray
~It was good, but not at all what I expected from what other people said. I enjoy myself just as much listening to the cast recording, and that doesn't cost $100
