"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
Well, I'm not sure whether you're familiar with the show but, by virtue of your type and vocal range, it seems you're right for Anthony Hope, the sailor who loves Joanna, Sweeney Todd's daughter, who is under the thumb of Judge Turpin, a corrupt and evil magistrate. Hope is a leading man, built along traditional lines, who gets to sing a heroic ballad, called, not surprisingly, JOANNA.
Anthony is the role you're right for. Romantic juvenile lead - I think his highest note is an F. Toby is a true tenor, and is usually played by someone small in stature. You're too young for any other role.
Yes, you fit Anthony. He's a bit naive, and he brings Sweeney Todd back to London at the begininng of the show. He's one of the few characters who survives at the end of the show.
so Anthony seems to be the ticket- can someone link me to the lyrics to his song(s)?
Also would "Oh, what a beautiful morning" be a good audition song for this - my other 2 standards are in lower ranges

well what would you suggest? I'm open to new ideas, i have a few months to prepare

Just be familiar with "Johanna" and "Not While I'm Around" (Anthony and Tobias's songs) and let the director decide what you are more right for. I don't think your height instantly rules you out as Tobias - could be an interesting character choice to play out actually...if you're a bari/tenor for real, you should be able to sing either role...

It seems like you could do either Anthony or Tobias based on what you say about you vocal range. I would agree with the poster who said to be familiar with both roles and let the director decide. As far as the headshot, you look more the part of Tobias who is a bit younger than Anthony. Anthony is young but most often played by someone who looks more in his early twnties. Of course, make up can make you appear a bit older. I would suggest going to the audition with the intentntion of taking either role if offered. They are both wonderful roles.
