what do you guys think is the all time favorite musical? Alot of people here dont like WICKED, others dont like CATS etc. What show do you think the majority of people like - they dont have to LOVE it .. but left the theatre enjoying it.
I realize that not everyone likes the same show, but just out of ALL the shows what is the most popular?

Saw it today for the first time today by the way...it's my pick for best musical, and you all know that is saying something cause I love Wicked so much!

I had a friend tell me that Avenue Q was "fine", but a "bad musical". And I have heard it's not a favorite of the older folks (not the Sesame Street generation). But I love it!
maybe i should rephrase .. "what musical is most accepted" or "has the least negative comments about it" i know there is no exact answer cuz everyone has their own opinions
remember it doesnt have to be current bway shows

Who said that about AVENUE Q? There are a lot of prudes out there, and some people will be offended by it. The thing is that anyone that sees it has to see the political message it's sending. It's a wonderfully done show with a lot in it. Until I saw WICKED, I couldn't imagine a show being any better. Now...Well, I'm still seeing it for my 4th time (although, if I had won the WICKED lottery the last time, it would only be my third)...
I feel like there isn't a show that everyone likes. I mean, if everyone had the same taste, things would get pretty boring. I do have to say that I haven't heard of anyone not liking Avenue Q, but I'm sure that there are people out there that don't like it, or won't even go see it because they think they won't. There are certainly musicals that are very widely and well liked, such as Les Mis, but I doubt there's a musical that *everyone* likes.
This question is very difficult because everyone has different taste. Some people prefer apples others like oranges some would rather have a kiwi. My favorite musical this year is Avenue Q. My favorite play is The Normal Heart. My favorite revival is Wonderful Town. My favorite cabaret review is Forbidden Broadway.

Well, of course I have to defend my favorite, but truly, I think it's up there on the least disliked category... HAIRSPRAY. And I have to also agree with AVENUE Q. I recall very few negative comments !
I like the show "Chicago", but I don't like the current revival much. With the total lack of scenery and costuming, everything starts to look the same.
"I liked that number where Roxie and Velma were both dressed in black... no, I mean the one where they were dressed in black... no, not that one, the one where they were dressed in black!"
Avenue Q is kinda like, as John Tartaglia has said "The little show that could". It's not a revival, it's completely original, it's not a star vechile and it's really cute and funny. I'm not saying that revivals or star vechiles are bad, I just think it's great that the show's become a hit despite the fact that it's not either one. And I'd also like to say my Grandma, who's well into her 70's, thought The Internet is for Porn was one of the most hyterical things she's ever heard. And my mom's new favorite song is Everyone's A Little Bit Racist. Both of them are way beyond the Sesame Street Generation.
Obviously, not everyone out there is going to like AVENUE Q. No show is liked by everyone. But I, PERSONALLY, have not heard from anyone who didn't like it. Now I have, fine. I still think it's the "least disliked."
You have to go to the classics. I'd vote for stuff like Guys and Dolls Fiddler on the Roof A Chorus Line Joseph...Dreamcoat
How can you even mention Avenue Q? Hardly anyone outside of NYC has even heard of it (yet). An "all-time favorite" has to have a chance to be seen by many more people.
