It's probably the most egregious category missing (even more so than Projection Design, which would be a worthy addition)

Here's the thing, though: there are so many categories like this that could be added, where do we stop? If we have an award for hair and makeup designers, then where's the award for projection designers, props designers, automated lighting designers, puppet designers. Then do we get into recognizing best scene charge artist, master electrician, etc. Choreography vs fight choreography. Orchestrations vs conductor and music director. The list goes on and on and all of those folks are deserving of recognition, but we can't have 100 awards. So that's why having one umbrella for scenic elements (which includes props and projections), lighting elements, costume elements (which includes hair and makeup) and sound elements makes the most sense. Perhaps credit those designers with the award and give them a statue as well. But own individual categories for all of these would be too much.

I’d argue the most egregious category missing is music direction/supervision as this position is of equal value creatively as the director and choreographer. While I’m glad there is a category for orchestrations, that category doesn’t even cover the arranger who has worked with the composer and creative team to shape the score before it gets to the orchestrator or singing company. A music team category will be very welcome. I realize I’m biased based on my handle, but it’s time the category is resurrected. (The Emmys have a category for music direction, by the way.)
