The funny thing is that I saw The Babylon Line a couple of times and I do not remember Michael.

The leaked video, which seems to have been erased from the internet, was interesting because if you did not know the play you would have thought something totally different was going on. I thought Jesse W and Daniel S. had very similar qualities. Both actors have golden boy qualities and a bit of a protective wall about them. It is actually a difficult part because the character has not matured into his identity and could easily waiver in the empathy department.

200 dollars last row Mezz? Yikes!

Anybody know if the TodayTix rush for TMO is still happening? I stopped getting alerts at 9am for that one, I think.

I had the app open this morning and checked. There was no countdown clock like there has been in the past ticking down to 9:00, and at 9:00 the button to buy rush tickets didn't activate/appear. Looks like they're not doing it anymore (or at least didn't today). May make sense for the last week and they finally seem to be sold out.

Hmm..I paid $145 for an orchestra seat at the box office only a few hours before I saw the show last week.

That's not too surprising. It wasn't the final week and the show wasn't sold out last week.

Saw the show tonight and it was filmed for NY Public Library archives.  They also made a special speech at the end about the unveiling of the Lorraine Hansberry statue by the TKTS booth.

The show was excellent.  One cute flub was when Jesse Williams called another character Darren.  At least I think it was a flub.
i was worried at first because when Jesse Williams first came out there were catcalls like we were at a strip club.  Luckily during the shower scenes everybody shut up.
At intermission, an employee confronted everyone in my row about filming and said somebody in the cast saw someone filming from our row and more or less searched everybody.  It was awkward.  And then at the end of the show I stepped into the aisle and a woman said “I’d like to leave with my wife please!”and then stepped behind me and told her wife how rude New Yorkers are.  Strange lol!

What an amazing production, worth every penny of the $208 dollar I gave to sit in the back row

Finally saw the show today, and, wow, what a monumental piece of entertainment. Richard Greenberg attended the matinee, which Jesse Tyler Ferguson announced during the curtain call, but didn't point him out in the audience. Very fortunate to have gotten a free Audience Rewards seat for this, since it's one of my favorites this season.

,,,and wasn't the water in the shower scenes sparkling clean? There's nothing like good water to capture the audience's attention.

I miss this show.  It was a highlight of my trip to New York earlier this summer and I still find myself thinking about the story, its characters, and the magnificent production.  Some of my takeaways:

First, I think the story resonated with me more in 2022 than it did in 2003.  I loved the play back then, but the story of an out and proud gay sports star felt fantastical at the time.  It was a magnificent peek into what could/should be, but nothing that resembled my reality nor that of the people in my orbit. On the other hand, it felt natural in 2022.  The story felt possible, about people I might actually know, and the complications real.

Second, I thought the cast was universally impressive, and I can't imagine choosing one over the other for acting awards.  No disrespect to JTF who I enjoyed immensely, but I think this is one case where the ensemble should be recognized as a unit; to single out one performance is a disservice to everyone else on the stage.

Finally, and I know this will be controversial, I was confused by one choice the playwright made in an otherwise perfect narrative.  He chose to deviate from the classic convention that if a play begins with a narrator telling the story, the place should end with that same narrator's wrapup. Take Me Out begins with the character Kippy Sunderstrom telling the story of Darren Lemming and Shane Nungitt but ends with the character Mason Marzac summarizing his personal arc. These two characters have fascinating stories to tell, but each is independent and overlaps only by virtue of events perpetuated by others.  That just felt off to me, especially since it was so easy to resolve; i.e., a short wrap up by Kippy would have been the proper bookend to the powerful story.

Thoughts?
