I don't think it is that realistic to make the cast album right after the initial tryout of a new musical. I  would imagine it would be more realistic after the future iteration of the show. Why record an album before more revisions are made?

Finally saw this and LOVED it.

I think this is an incredible first run of a musical.

I feel this show suffers from having stars in it. 

As pointed out above, most musicals need many steps to get to Broadway. 

A Strange Loop (which I hope will win the Tony) took 16 years of development and 2 productions before it reached Broadway. 

Musicals are HARD. 

Suffs has so many incredible moments. There is a masterpiece in here.

I think the star power and Public slot made a lot of us (including me) expect it to move directly to Broadway ASAP.

But I think with enough development and time they will find the gorgeous show/Tony-winning production. 

Slow and steady wins the race.

It was already announced a cast album is in the works. Whether it happens or not is another thing.

As I recall no cast album has been announced, just one person has said that Shaina said it’s in the works. That is far from any announcement or confirmation.

I hope for a gorgeous show - winning Tony Awards is completely secondary.  I believe that if that's anyone's true goal, they will seldom succeed.  They have to work the art and not chase trophies.  (I'm not suggesting they are - but awards are not the be-all of anything, ESPECIALLY art.

Seeing this Sunday. VERY excited.

It's not far fetched for a cast album to be planned in the future, but in terms of  WHEN, I rather doubt there would be any imminent announcement at this juncture.

I'm kind of shocked the buzz on this died down after the reviews and that awards like the Drama Desks mostly ignored it.  Finally was able to catch it last night after two COVID-thwarted attempts and it is certainly and it an ambitious and moving piece of theater.  Perhaps the physical production could use a bit more magic, but as a piece of writing it's just about as good as it gets.  Maybe some of the political/current event landscape of the past week impacted my reaction to the show, but I really hope this is able to find a future life after this weekend and I can't wait for a cast recording (which Playbill and others list as "upcoming".

Caught the matinee today, and I'm the new president of the fan club. I loved this piece in progress.

 

I laughed, l learned, I cried. Is it bway ready? Not quite, but I think it can be, and I think it will blow people away. The performances were all around outstanding (unlike 1776). These women are WORKING IT. particularly loved the performances if Taub, Soo and McLean.

 

Would love a recording....if nothing else, as a way to compare the future iterations.

I'll be honest, I was underwhelmed by this.  The cast, by and large, did a great job with the material.  But I found the plot overlong, not enough variety in the music, and a lot of characters that felt like archetypes and not people.  The parts I liked most were those that leaned into the more stylized elements (Act II opener, Woodrow Wilson's numbers).  I wonder what this would look like if it felt more vaudevillian overall?  I appreciate the ambition and the message, but I hope Shaina is willing to work with some collaborators to find the really great show that's there amidst this hodgepodge.

I don't expect Leigh Silverman or Raja Feather Kelly to leave this project, but I do wonder how the material would have been handled by someone like Tina Landau, who might have leaned into the stylized elements more.

Hoping Shaina & co can figure out how to fix the issues, but they might be too baked into the show.
