Hello!! I'm auditioning for Into the woods at my school and I'm having some trouble deciding on what to do. I want to be the witch so bad and want a song and a monologue that would be perfect for the witch. All my art teachers think I would play a phenomenal witch, but the director is a guest director who doesn't know my abilities other then few videos my musical theatre director has sent him. My range is around a B2-F6, I have a very weighted darker tone. I need a song composed by Stephen Sondheim only and a 2 min monologue. As of right now I'm thinking of doing the ending of could I leave you from follies, but have been told that it doesn't show off enough of what my voice can bring because it's very sing talk like even though it does follow a pattern similar to the last midnight. As for a monologue I'm stuck and would love to be recommended some that really can show off some acting. Please someone help me!! Would be much appreciated!! Also if you think could I leave you would be a good choice let me know!!

Ladies Who Lunch from Company might work well.  Strong female.  (not sure of range, however)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

A Parade in Town from ANYONE CAN WHISTLE (mainly because it's about a power-needy woman who, like the Witch, suddenly finds herself isolated from everyone "I'm the Witch, You're the World"Into the woods auditions

As for the monologue, you may want to check out Eleanor's monologue from The Lion in Winter, the one beginning "Of course he has a knife.  He always has a knife.  We all have knives.  It's 1183 and we're Barbarians.."   Like Eleanor, the Witch is in danger of losing (or does lose) her child(ren's) love, knows the score better than anyone around her, but never loses her sense of humor.  Also, like Eleanor, she's a once very powerful woman who is deprived of her due. There may be another monologue of Eleanor's in the play that also works.
