FYI: Ramin Karimloo is doing a NY appearance in support of his new CD at a new Bleecker St venue called Subculture, at 45 Bleecker St. on Thursday August 1. I would love love to attend this. There are, crazily enough, $15 tickets available for the side sections on TDF.
Saw his show in Canada last year. He was in good voice but he would announce a song from a famous show like West Side Story and get a round of applause for the title and then he'd say that he's never seen the show. Based on his comments it looks like he has not seen any of the classic musicals. And he seems very proud of the fact!
I don't think he's ever come across as particularly steeped in theatre, be it plays, musicals or otherwise. He seems far more interested in being a rock singer.
He's a nice guy, but I've always found his untrained voice too frequently sharp in pitch terms to be enjoyable. His Phantom in the RAH concert is particularly unlistenable for me because of the sharpness and constant intakes of breath at every other second.
