With Patti in the role, I could die happy (she and Angela can play the same parts well, Lovett and Madame Rose).

I'm a huge Bette fan, I even have her series on bootleg dvds I watch regularly. I think acting wise she would be a fine Mame, but, forgive me for sounding racist, she comes across as far too Jewish for the WASPy Mame Dennis. Normally, it wouldnt be that large a problem to get over, but a large plot point in the second act revolves around the Uptons not wanting Jewish neighbors. There's no no no way they'd let Patrick (who would be at least on his father's side) marry their daughter if they'd nervous about "those people" buying the lot next door.

If Catherine Zeta-Jones plays it I think PalJoey would have a BWW meltdown (you know you're awesome PJ) Bette Midler asked to do Mame I'd love to see her in a TV remake of AUNTIE MAME, but I don't think she could handle all those songs eight times a week, she was very smart to pick A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC as her Broadway debut playing a role written for a non-singer. I thought she was wonderful in that show too, but I no longer have an interest in seeing her play MAME on stage, if she's gonna push herself in the vocal department I'd much rather see her in a SUNSET BLVD revival.
If Jerry Herman is really holding out for a top notch commercial revival then Donna Murphy is not a viable choice, unfortunately. Much like it's happening with Anika Noni Rose, Murphy tends to go without doing a Broadway show for years, favoring (probably higher paid) mediocre TV shows over stage material worth her talent. I feel like this has kept her from being a full blown commercial star on Broadway the way that say Kelli O'Hara, Audra McDonald and Kristin Chenoweth (who was a famous Broadway actress before she got her Emmy) were able to do. If Lincoln Center is interested, they should cast her in a revival, she's made to play Mame. Mazzie would be a riot as her Vera, I love it when she plays funny.
