Nasty_khakis, no worries. I wasn't making a comment on Andy Karl's ability to do the role, just clarifying what you meant by the "reality" of the piece. :) I agree that I'd love to see him step outside his usual fare, I think he'd handle the material quite well.
I do hope they bring someone over from the US for this because I can't for the life of me think of a name in the UK that could or should be Patrick Bateman. But I think Christian Bale was so perfect in the movie that it's big shoes to fill. Rupert Goold is a fantastic choice of director though.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Benjamin Walker do a very early workshop of this?
Part of me feels like Sheik is just the wrong composer for this material. The tone of the movie and the dark humor in it is just so not what I've seen in his past work, but I don't want to make any judgments without anything to base it on.
Would've preferred to see Larry O'Keefe take it on, more based on Bat Boy and his opera Life of the Party than his work on Blonde.
I think it's somewhat difficult to pre-cast seeing as I haven't heard a note of the score (if anyone has, I'd love for you to get in contact with me), but based on the book and movie, I think Ben Walker would make a fantastic Patrick and I would love to see Annaleigh Ashford as Evelyn.
I don't think Ashford is right for Evelyn at all. I've never seen her pull off the darkness that's required. I saw her in the Heathers concert at Joe's Pub trying to pull of a darker role (Veronica) and it was a complete miss for me.
