I’m in constant awe of Ms. Lansbury’s joie de vivre and stamina: 5 months of touring on the other side of the world and then she’s ready to headline another Broadway production. What a Lady! (If only she could squeeze in a film or TV appearance in between).
The article says : She is all about moving forward and is already anticipating a role in New York this time next year in the Enid Bagnold play The Chalk Garden
Knowing that Ms. Lansbury doesn’t like to carry the show on her own I imagine producers also have a star name in mind for Miss Madrigal. Cate Blanchett would be amazing. Anyway, this is a great role for Lansbury.
THE CHALK GARDEN is one of those chestnuts I don't really mind seeing get pulled out for a repeat appearance.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
~ Muhammad Ali
Looks like I know when my next New York trip is now!!!
"I never had theatre producers run after me. Some people want to make more Broadway shows out of movies. But Elliot and I aren't going to do Batman: The Musical." - Julie Taymor 1999
Has anyone heard any news on this since then? While promoting Driving Miss Daisy tour in Australia Angela Lansbury has yet again confirmed that she planning on starting in the play next fall. Here what she said: "If this was my swansong [Driving Miss Daisy], I would feel like I had closed the envelope nicely - although I do have a plan for a play (The Chalk Garden) in New York next fall."
