Opel's played the role before, around five years ago at the Sacramento Music Circus.
While her comedic prowess can't be denied, I'm sad to say I'm not a huge fan. I find her voice so deafeningly shrill and grating that I've never enjoyed a single performance of hers outside of URINETOWN and THE TOXIC AVENGER, where she played almost the exact same kind of cartoonish villains.
I think, above all, Dolly has to be warm and enigmatic, and that's far from what I get from Opel, whose comedy is often so dark.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I saw her on tour as The Drowsy Chaperone and she was terrific, but I have to agree with somethingwicked's comment about her seeming to be ill suited for the role.

When have Schaeffer and Opel ever worked together before, Wilmingtom? I wasn't aware they had.

^ I seem to remember that she did something at the Signature a few years back but can't recall what it was. I could be completely wrong. Her name came up in a conversation and the person mentioned that Eric was a fan so maybe I just presumed they'd worked together.
Schaeffer just must like her work, because she's never done anything at Signature.
