So, I got it, and it sounds great. But it says "Original Broadway Cast." Isn't that misleading as I'm not sure there has even been a major NYC production? Much less a Broadway production.

Are you sure it says "Broadway Cast" and not simply "Original Cast Recording"? The image on Amazon says "Original Cast Recording" no where on the page does it claim to be a Broadway cast. Furthermore a quick google search reveals that it had its world premier in NY.

"35MM" made its Off-Broadway World Premiere at the Galapagos Art Space in New York City on March 7th 2012."

Hope this clears up any possible confusion you have.

@westcoast, the recording's iTunes data reads "35 MM Original Broadway Cast" under Artist, but "Original Cast Recording" under Album by Artist/Year.

That aside, I'm loving "The Ballad of Sara Berry." Wowza. How did I miss this show!?

If people actually went in and examined the meta-data (I think that's the term) for recordings on itunes they would be horrified. I mean, the number of cast recordings that are labeled "soundtrack" in their genre, I can only imagine the wailing and hand wringing that would ensue!

also @westcoast - 35MM didn't have an "Off-Broadway" production, no matter what Google tells you. ("Off-Broadway" doesn't simply mean "Not-On-Broadway.") Galapagos Art Space is a rental space in Brooklyn. (Book your wedding now!) RippedMan said that he didn't think 35MM had had a major NY production — about which he's correct.

And yes, iTunes was at first listing the recording as "Original Broadway Cast" — the listing has since been corrected to "Original Cast Recording".

Hope this clears up any possible confusion you have. 35mm Recording

Actually the Galapagos Art Space can be an Off-Broadway venue. It is in Brooklyn. Brooklyn is a bureau of New York City. So long as the venue is housing a professional production, is located in NYC, and has a seating capacity greater than 100 and fewer than 500, it qualifies as an Off-Broadway theatre.

Any rental space, whether it is the Galapagos Art Space or the former grand ballroom in the Jane Street Hotel (which housed the Off-Broadway productions of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Debbie Does Dallas)can be an used as an Off-Broadway venue so long as it meets the above requirements. Hope this clears up any possible confusion you have.

True, but only if by "professional production" you mean a production that has contracted as "Off-Broadway" with all labor unions, Actors Equity Association, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, the League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers, etc. 35MM played a two-night engagement at Galapagos. It was a rental.

But yes, you are absolutely correct that Galapagos "can be" an official Off-Broadway venue.
