The ongoing UK tour of 'Birds Of A Feather' may get to rest its wings for an 8 week season at the London palladium from late summer. The tour has been selling out every performance since it opened in March 2012 and it continues until July playing every major theatre across the UK.
The girls are back! One of BBC TV’s most popular and fondly-remembered sitcoms comes to the stage with all three of its original leading cast members, Pauline Quirke, Linda Robinson and Lesley Joseph.
'Birds Of a Feather' ran on BBC for nearly ten years throughout the 1990s becoming a massive hit right from the word go and remains not only a classic comedy but also, as a female-centred long-running series, a truly rare gem.
And now the three stars of the TV series are re-united on stage to re-create their adored characters, sisters Sharon Theodopolopoudos and Tracy Stubbs and their sex-mad neighbour, Dorien Green, in a brand-new show created especially for the theatre by The Comedy Theatre Company, producers of the highly-successful tour of Victoria Wood’s 'Dinnerladies'.
The London Palladium was home to another hit BBC comedy that transferred to the stage in 1986 with 'Allo, Allo' selling out 2 extended seasons at the 2500 seat theatre.
All three leading ladies have major TV commitments that the producers are currently negotiating in the hope the London season will take place.
The London Palladiums current show, 'The Wizard Of Oz' closes on Sept 4th.
Gotcha! I think this is great for the London Palladium, Home Of Great British Entertainment. I know a number of people who have seen this and say it is a great night.
I like this idea. Of all the comedy-to-stage adaptations this is the best owing to the original team coming back on board. Keeping up Appearances had a weaker script although Rachael Bell as Hyacynth was really quite good.
Do you think this would sell at the Palladium?? I'm still excited to see if Des I'Connor will be the final Wizard.
I think it will sell on the very fact that you mentioned, full original cast. The stage adaptions of 80s all had the TV cast eagerly repeating their roles.
Bruce Forsyth is in line to do 3 Sundays in the winter.
It would never sell out for two weeks at The Palladium. Mon to thurs would be very hard to fill, especially during September which is always tough and this show couldn't depend on the on day tourists.
It goes in for 8 weeks if it goes in. Its obvious it wont be aimed at the tourists but it will certainly have a large audience, just look at the TV shows history, people flock to see the real stars in these shows, always have done. Updated On: 5/6/12 at 06:45 PM
I like Birds of a Feather but transferring to the Palladium would be risky given how big the theatre is, I think it would more suited to the Savoy given that's got nothing going in after The Sunshine Boys finishes.
Memphis is being lined up from mid October for 4 months.
Charlie goes in from May and will need a two month get in.
Birds of feather still for 2 weeks despite its old following wouldn't fill it. Maybe for two nights or in a smaller theatre, plus it will, look bizarre on that it stage given the small houses it is playing
The thing with Memphis is why? Just for 4 months. Is it to then launch a UK tour? Or hope another venue will come up to transfer it to? Which seems unlikely looking at what shows are on
