Check out The Pod Hotel (53rd and Third). Newly remodeled last year. My new favorite. Clean! Bright! Comfy!

Better yet, book thru priceline.com for the best rates.

I stayed there in April and will again this weekend.

Gotta agree with Princeton. My husband and I stayed at the Wellington back in February. We'd stay there again. Decent, fairly clean, great location--walking distance to Lincoln Center, most theaters, Times Square, Carnegie Hall right next door...and not terribly expensive. but the location could save you some cab fares. We walked nearly everywhere!

Broadwayjoe, do you think that would be a good place since I'm going with my mom?

I stayed at the Hotel Mayfair on West 49th last year and I found it to be reseasonable and comfortable. The rooms were small but I expect that for NYC. The staff was very friendly. Great location.

You could try the West Side YMCA. It's just blocks from Lincoln Center and Central Park. Great location.
You could get a private room. It has AC and a TV and linens. For a tourist on a budget wanting location, this is a good place.
It is pretty affordable - shared showers (bring flip flops) that weren't too busy in the morning. You can store your luggage before check-in and after check-out if you have time to kill for a $1.

One warning, bring earplugs and move the head of your bed away from the door. The halls are echo-ish and you can hear every door close. But if you do the above (and maybe take some tylenol PM, you will be fine. can't beat the location for the price.

I'm with LilBwayLady. I love the Hilton on 53rd and 6th! I stay there once a month almost. It's like home! It's a perfect location and it's really nice too.

It's very pricey, but the last time I was in the City, I stayed at The W Times Square. I loved it. The rooms are very small, however, you are in the heart of the theatre district, and the ambiance is just spectacular. The view from the top is just breathtaking. A must see for any theatre lover. Enjoy your trip.

I, too, have stayed at the Mayfair on West 49th. If you do not mind sleeping in a hotel room the size of a closet, it's a nice place. We got a good deal by booking through orbitz. Plus, it's right next to Spring Awakening, and across from Chicago.

-Was that a fart?
-My fault, I fear.
