My point was, had she not auditioned for American Idol, since she was already an NYU student (someone correct me if Im wrong) She could have landed the role on her own.

ALthough I do agree, Shes not Maureen enough for me.

The image of Scooter Girl dinging her bell and tooting her scooter horn before the line, "Joanne, which way to the stage?" is enough to make me want to slit my wrists.

Wow. So she's been offered the role of Maureen because she can ride a scooter into an AI audition? That has got to be a new all time low for Rent. First a porn star singing the Seasons of Love solo and now this.

You know, I might not like Scooter girl or exactly know what she is...but it sounds to me like she is doing ANYTHING she can to get herself out there - including some dumb stunt on a moronic reality show.

I can't fault her for that. IF that got her the gig...good for her.

I wish I had thought of it and it would have worked for me.......

That's absolutely disgusting. That girl does NOT have a Maureen voice. Her voice isn't even that good, let alone the right style. I was very happy that she was kicked off. Yeah, she had a great personality, but my God I was happy I didn't have to hear that voice the rest of the season.

Why even bother? Who would go to see a show just to see her? She wasn't there long enough to have gained any kind of following. Now, if Jennifer Hudson were offered the SOLo or Joanne... that would be another story. That girl needs to bless broadway with her amazing pipes.

I agree completely, insomniak. From what I've heard, after people saw her in the HAIR concert, it's inevitable that she'll be on Broadway soon, hopefully making her Broadway debut in Dreamgirls. Pray with me, people!

Well personality-wise, she's the perfect amount of attention-whore to be Maureen! But come on...she doesn't have the pipes for it. She'd be kinda cute and quirky as Mark and Roger's mom though.

Jennifer Hudson as Joanne would be genius.

i'm a big jennier hudson fan i loved her rendition of 'new england' and felt she should have won this year ai-3 her or laytoya!

i do like scooter girl she cracked me up, i think she must have been in theater school as one person mentioned, so she could have landed a role anyway!

i thought she had a nice voice, but it has been soo long i can't remember much only that i thought she was better then some of the other people that went on to the top 12!

she has some comedic skills and to me her face reminded me a lot of Meg ryan's facial features!

maybe she would do well in a movie or tv movie or sitcom! i do think she has talent so maybe she will get some role in something to see how she does she has acting training i think...

i'm sure a lot of actor / singers in college try out for idol, so it should not be any surprise if many of them land on broadway!

I love Jennifer hudson so if she lands a good role on Broadway i would be very happy for her, but better yet i want her CD and i hope she records that 'new england' song that Barry manolow wrote i love that song and Jennifer just gave me chills or shills when she sang it! she is one of my favs for sure!

'I think that Rent is insanely desperate right now... and they should quie while they're still ahead. Bring back the OBC for one final show, and end it... once you get a Spice Girl, Drew Lachey and a "scooter girl" in your show... it's time to call it quits.'

Ouch. Frenchie Davis has a damn good voice. She is a talented woman and I can see why she got offered the part. My favorite? No, but damn good. I agree with bjivie2 on Scooter Girl. I didn't think she had that great a voice, and it's definitely not a Maureen-type. I don't think she has what it takes. This is also sort of a slap in the face to Kelly Karbacz (current Maureen), isn't it? Sort of like Krystal Washington with Scary Spice and Matt Caplan with Joey Fatone and now Drew Lachey. Anyway, I don't really wanna see Rent close any time soon, but que sera sera. I'd miss it like hell though.

Ok, everyone needs to get off thier high horse. It's not like Nicole Tieri is actually going to be in Rent, and even if she was I wouldn't see it as a problem. And the best idea for the closing of Rent is to have amazingly fresh, talented young actors come in and really jazz up the show. You know what the OBC did for Rent when it first opened. Instead of bringing the OBC back it would be a better idea to find young actors that match how amazing Rent was when it first opened.

For crying out loud...Is it really the end of the world if Nicole gets cast!?! As it's been pointed out, she was obviosuly a theatre person before she auditioned for AI, and for all we know, she could have auditioned and landed the role without having been on tv. I think she's got a really good voice and could pull the character off ,but I doubt she'll be billed and hyped as "scooter girl now in rent!"

If one more person says RENT is "dead" i'm going to shoot someone. Seriously. People have been calling this show "dead" since Marcy Harriel took over for Daphne. I'm so over it.

I find two things funny about this whole topic. The first is that how many of you guys have actually SEEN the OBC? How can you talk about something that you've never seen? I constantly hear all this talk about the OBC and I'm not knocking them but I have a lot of friends who have seen the show from the beginning and if you asked them who their favorites were or the best in the role, the OBC isn't dominating their lists. What really comes across in some people's posts whether in this thread or other boards is just say OBC and you clearly know what you're talking about when it comes to Rent and marketing the show and what's good for the show. And your intentions for wanting them to comeback are "purely" to help out the show and not just so you can say, "I saw the OBC of Rent!" Again, stop with the Rent sold out crap. It's old and people aren't saying something new. And wait, weren't people saying that when Rent moved to Broadway??? Where are the complaints? Oh, wait, you saw the show already so that now makes you an expertise on it. And the show should close because it's not up to your standards even though people seeing it for the first time, tourists mainly, are pleased with it and walk away moved by the show---so what's the problem? Rent's main purpose is to tell a STORYand then the cast stuff comes. But yes, let's close the show because fans don't like the way it's being run and let's put actors and crew out of jobs.

What also amazes me is that it's okay for Broadway people to take actors and actresses jobs on TV and Film but it's not okay vice versa? That's just a bunch of BS. Just like celebrities who join these musicals or plays take away from the unknown talents that's out there, so do these Broadway actors and actresses who try to make it out on the screen and being on Broadway does help to give them some pull in their favor. Technically, if Taye Diggs got his start on Tv and Film then there should be a huge uproar over him ever doing any musicals even though he's qualified to do so because apparently, you're not allowed to do crosses over in entertainment business.

I don't like everything the show does, I don't like some of the people that have been in the roles over the years but that's life, so suck it up and deal with it. Rent producers are no different from any other Broadway producer or producers in general and if you think they are or should be, that's the most ridiculously thing I've ever heard.

Princess MimiChica, do you remember when people said the same thing about when Sherie took over for Idina? The show was over and it was never going to be the same and Sherie would be terrible. And as I recall, I don't remember people being too nice to Sherie either when she took over for Idina. But anyway, this whole Rent has gone to Hell has been said once the OBC started leaving and then was completely gone so please, come up with a new campaign beacuse Rent "sold out" is played out.
