Hopefully the Tony's will welcome new talent rather than "re-awarding" someone who's already been recognized.
re-awarding? If Sutton were being nominated for playing Millie again, that would be a re-award. She is playing a new character, and a character unlike we have seen her take on before.
As far as the actual debate. All the predictions seem to be leaning towards Sutton. However, it is a toss up. Both ladies are extremely talented and deserving to win. IF Patina wins it will be an upset, and who doesn't like a little upset? I do. Much luck to them both!
<< Gavin Creel and Kate Baldwin making vocal love... I adore these two.
"IF Patina wins it will be an upset, and who doesn't like a little upset?"
From all the talk I've seen so far I wouldn't call it an "upset" if Patina Miller wins, she's been given pretty high praise for her performance in Sister Act, and the show, while not getting the love letters from the reviewers they hoped for, wasn't exactly savaged by them either. An upset would be Beth Leavel taking the award (or Jan Maxwell throwing another one of those Tonys into her bag).
Sutton will win. The Tonys love re-awarding someone they initially recognized. To those who say she already has one, that logic has no water. Ask Audra McDonald about that.
Sutton is KILLING in a very demanding role and has the pipes and the hoofing skills that are noteworthy.
Sadly Patina is in an inferior piece of theatre and she will not be recognized.

Anything Goes is basically a 2 hour version of "Show Off" from Drowsy Chaperone for Sutton. She's a lock. Plus Patina's Acting leaves something to be desired, at least in my opinion. Having seen all of the nominees in there respective roles, there is no way Sutton is losing this.
Personally rooting for Donna Murphy to win, but between Patina and Sutton, I think Sutton's more likely to win. Personally thought she was amazing in this role and don't know anyone who's said differently, and she's done exceptionally with the critics. Not so true for Patina, though she's clearly done well too. Updated On: 5/15/11 at 03:12 PM
