I wouldn't mind Borle as Bert, as long as they don't bring on his girlfriend to play Mary.

"Am I the only one who thinks Stephanie J. Block might make a brilliant Mary?"

I'd like to Stephanie J. Block play Princess Fiona in "Shrek" instead. She could bring lots of humor to that role.

I am all for Anneliese van der Pol to play Mary Poppins. She was an amazing Belle.

Stephanie played the part at Hollywood Studios.

She played the role in Disneyland, not Hollywood Studios. Another Broadway actress, whose name currently deceives me, was the original Belle in the Hollywood Studios (in Disney World) production.

Maybe Gavin Creel reprising the role?

Doubtful I know, with the success of Hair and all that, but he received raves when he did it in London.

Another Disney Channel actress, I know, but would anyone else love to see Raven Symone take on Mary? She's a little young, but I think she could do rather well in that role. I also agree on Annaliese as Mary, but she might be going into Wicked so who knows.

I've heard that the producers are negotiating with Mary Louise Wilson to play Mary. The new Burt may very well be REegis Philbin.

Oh what I'd give for Julie Andrews to be able to sing the part again...

I'm guessing by "musical with a teeny bopper following" you mean Wicked, and a past Fiyero is due to take on the role of Bert. Meh, who plays Bert isn't too important to me.

I actually have no idea who should play Mary, but I remember there were horrible rumors a few years ago that Heather Mills or McCartney or whatever was going to take over, thank god THAT never happened.

If you read some of the responses on page 1, it seems like Christian Borle (from Legally Blonde) is the name the poster is referring to.

Yeah Borle would make sense given the teeny-bopper clue, but still, Broadwayguy2 never confirmed it.

Anyway, Stephanie Block most likely wouldn't have the range for Mary. She may have played Belle, but Mary sings up to a sustained Soprano C, much higher than anything Belle sings.

I can definitely see Christian Borle being a very good Burt.
I know this is a little random, but what about Celia Keenan-Bolger? I know she has a beautiful soprano from watching videos of her as Johanna in the Kennedy Center's Sweeney Todd.

Brynn in anything. She's just so darn interesting on stage.

Brynn would be a fantastic Poppins. I also have a distinct affinity for Jessica Grove.

And as far as Bert goes, I confirm or deny nothing, but certain things in the thread in reply to what I posted have made me laugh... for various reasons. re: The next Mary Poppins on Broadway will be...anyone??

Laura auditioned for the role originally. She wanted it really badly from what I hear.

Laura Benanti did not audition.

She wanted to, but Disney wouldn't see her because of the debacle going on at THE WEDDING SINGER at the time. Margo Lion's word carried a lot of weight with them.

Brynn O'Malley (who would indeed be fantastic) went in a few times during the initial auditions, but I don't think she made it down to the very end.

It was ultimately between Ashley Brown and Erin Dilly.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
