It definitely has to do with the trend of popular music favoring higher and higher singing for both genders and composers don't write soprano roles anymore.

Just from listening to the album, I think we needed more duets between them but it's very hard to connect the dots or understand the vision of the piece without seeing the show or reading a plot summary.

Yeah, I wish some of it could have been more accessible but frankly my biggest problem is the plot is completely lost on me when listening to just the score. I need some context, lol.

Even if the show is snubbed in the Best Musical category, Adam Guettel could pull a JRB and win for the score, both because it's a comeback for him and because of it's quality although it isn't as accessible as Bridges IMO. Listening to the album right now and it's definitely growing on me with more repeated listenings but voters/audience members might not take the time to do that. Thoughts?

I'm listening to it for the second time right now and it's good- definitely not as accessible as something like Bridges for example but still strong. Kelli is great as always. It reminds me of Sunday in the Park with George.

I'm not sure why Kelli signed on to The Hours for 2024 when Days of Wine and Roses being transferred to Broadway is still a possibility. But it's only eight performances in May so it's not impossible for her to do both.

Yes, I think that added an extra dimension to it although Close was by no means washed up at the time of course. She fits Swanson type-wise too although she definitely brings her own presence to the role. Close had been nominated for an Oscar five times prior to her playing the part. Her most memorable nominations were for Dangerous Liaisons and especially Fatal Attraction.

I've been rereading the book for the millionth time and listening to the audiobook and it still holds up- she's hilarious and her honesty is very refreshing in a business where so many stars will always say the experience of each show is amazing, lol.
The Sunset debacle is very interesting- it's clear that they treated her like garbage. Glenn Close was better suited for the part acting wise so I think it would have been a tough pill to swallow for her but she wo

I loved this documentary except that Charlotte d'Amboise was portrayed at times in it as some struggling performer when she's the daughter of a legendary dancer, is married to Terrence Mann who was in the film, and is living in a fancy townhouse in the movie. Not that she's a bad performer or that her career has been perfect but come on now, lol.
I wonder when they'll revive it again.

Tootsie has a brilliant film script that didn't get recognized when the film version came out so maybe that was why it was awarded in addition to wealth spreading?
