TKTS Between Christmas and New Years  Nov 16 2011, 09:01:18 AM
Thanks for the feedback. Paid full price for "Follies," "War Horse," and "Other Desert Cities" and by sitting in the mezz didn't spend a fortune. Got a discount for "Priscilla" and managed to get an orchestra seat. If my flight arrives when it is supposed to, hoping to pick-up one of the 12/26 matinees at TKTS.
TKTS Between Christmas and New Years  Nov 15 2011, 09:55:34 AM
Coming up to NYC on the 26th and staying through the 29th. Never been to NYC at this time of year and wondered what ticket availbility at TKTS might be like. Can anyone offer any insights based on past experience? Have five show slots to fill and have already purchased a full-price ticket in the mezz for "Follies."
Cleveland PlayhouseSquare Broadway Series 2010-2011  Apr 6 2010, 05:43:38 PM
This is a MUCH better season than we are getting in Louisville. Count yourself lucky.
How quickly can you get to Newark from NYC after a Sunday mat?  Apr 6 2010, 05:40:15 PM
Thanks to all who have offered their opinions. Since I tend to be someone who plays it safe, I will probably stick with "American Idiot." I've also considered "Everyday Rapture" which I believe also has a 2 p.m. curtain on Sunday. I wondered if anyone who saw it off-Broadway knows the approximate run time.

Yes Blaxx I am a domestic flyer. I intially planned on "American Idiot" being my Sunday mat choice. Given my time constraints, it looks like it is the safest choice as well.
How quickly can you get to Newark from NYC after a Sunday mat?  Apr 5 2010, 07:57:56 PM
Have yet to pick my Sunday mat show for my NYC trip the first weekend of May. One of my concerns is making my flight, which leaves at 8:00 p.m. out of Newark (if it's on time). "American Idiot" and "Sondheim on Sondheim" have been on the radar because of their 2:00 curtain times, but have also been considering "A Little Night Music" and "Promises, Promises," both of which start at 3:00. Could I get to Newark for my flight if I saw a mat with a 3:00 curtain and an end time around 5:30 or 6:00?
"American Idiot" or "Sondheim on Sondheim"?  Mar 31 2010, 09:35:02 PM
Thanks to low airfares out of Louisville, KY on the weekend of The Kentucky Derby, I'm headed to NYC. Already have purchased tickets for the May 1st Saturday mat of "The Glass Menagerie" off-B-way and the Saturday evening performance of "La Cage." As for the Sunday mat, I've narrowed it down to "American Idiot" and "Sondheim on Sondheim." Would love to hear from those who have seen both.
BAA Season in Louisville, KY 2010-2011  Mar 26 2010, 07:12:09 PM
No, I don't think disgusted is "strong." Half of the announced season is a stage version of "Dancing With the Stars" and a tired revival of show that (IMO) wasn't all that great to begin with!

BAA Season in Louisville, KY 2010-2011  Mar 26 2010, 06:45:12 PM
Though the season won't be officially announced until Sunday, I logged into my BAA account and the shows are listed:

Burn the Floor
Rock of Ages
Les Miserables
Shrek

I think it's a crappy season. Both Cincy and Indy are getting six shows, compared to our four. I'm okay with "Rock of Ages" and "Shrek" (both of which I saw in NYC), but disgusted with "Burn the Floor" and "Les Miserable." BAA is going to have to do a better job of booking shows in Louisville if they

Broadway Across America - Indianapolis 2010/2011 season to be announced Friday!  Feb 26 2010, 05:06:06 PM
As a Louisville BAA subscriber, I'd be very happy if we got "Mary Poppins," "Dreamgirls," "9 to 5," and "Rock of Ages." Does anyone have any inside info as to when Louisville will announce their season?
They turned that into a musical?  Feb 16 2010, 08:46:24 PM
Yes jv92 it does. Had not thought of "My Fair Lady" since it is such a mainstream musical, but textually it does seem to "defy musicalization."

They turned that into a musical?  Feb 16 2010, 08:17:46 PM
Thank you D2! That is a great suggestion. Had not thought of "Urinetown," but I think it successfully answers the question as does "Sweeney Todd."

They turned that into a musical?  Feb 16 2010, 07:58:20 PM
The purpose of the course is to explore topics that seem to defy "musicalization," such as bipolar disorder or the tragedy of a sinking ship.

They turned that into a musical?  Feb 16 2010, 07:40:03 PM
I'm looking to create a course for an advanced program I'm teaching in this summer called "They turned that into a muscial?" My inspiration is "Next to Normal." The campus where I will be teaching is close enough that I could take my students to see The Muny's production of "Titanic." I'm looking for other musicals we might study and/or listen to that also answer that question. Suggestions?
9 to 5: The National Tour is ON  Jan 12 2010, 08:12:39 PM
I never knew that the tour was "off." When the show closed on Broadway they announced the tour would kick-off in Nashville this fall. I have no doubt the show will do well on the road. Saw it on Broadway and hope to see it on tour.
re: They Had No Money In The Budget For A Set  Dec 5 2009, 08:47:27 PM
Not saying that the set for "Finian's Rainbow" overwhelmed me, but I don't go to shows for the set. The PRODUCTION was awesome, and that's all that matters to me. I left the theater humming the songs and would gladly pony up the money to see this great revival of a forgotten gem a second time!
re: How is Lorna Luft in 'White Christmas'??  Dec 1 2009, 07:10:59 PM
Looking forward to seeing the tour (especially Ms. Luft) when it hits Louisville, KY.
re: Finian's Rainbow Cast Recording  Nov 25 2009, 06:15:15 PM
So happy to hear this. I loved the show when I saw it back in October and can't wait to the add the recording to my collection.
re: DREAMGIRLS - Rehearsal Video  Nov 5 2009, 12:05:19 AM
I want to be excited about this, but after the mess Longbottom made of "Bye Bye Birdie" I'm aprehensive.
