Not a fan of the 1974 film adaptation of Jerry Herman's 1966 Broadway smash hit, "Mame" starring a woefully mis-cast Lucille Ball. Still, it does retain the performances of Jane Connell and Bea Arthur from the Broadway original along with original director Gene Saks and original choreographer Onna White.

Worth a look for the curious and the fantastically staged title number sung by Robert Preston.

I watched it the other night hoping that, with the passage of time, it would seem better. It really didn't, but it was still fun to watch.

However, I do think that HELLO, DOLLY!, with Streisand, has just gotten better and better with time...

I agree! HELLO, DOLLY! has withstood the test of time. I love, love, love this film. It has that throwback feel to those old time MGM musicals from the 30's and '40s, but that's no coincidence since Roger Edens, Gene Kelly and Michael Kidd were all on board.

Actually, "I Love Lucy" as "Mame".  Really.

But my only live experience with "Mame" was the 1969 London production with Ginger Rogers.  Half a century later, I can still remember the well-deserved publicity surrounding her arrival in London.  She was a certified STAR.  At the time, she was around 58 years old, and I was mesmerized by her incredibly muscular legs.  Happy memories of a happy time in my life.

Here's Ginger.

And finally.....

Here are Angela, Ginger and Lucy performing the title number together (sorta).

The video is a bit hard to follow.  But a hint (if you don't know).  Click on the YouTube logo, and then click on the "full screen" square at the far right.  Much easier to watch that way.

Just a bit of fun.
