The Wetumpka Depot Players are wrapping up their 33rd season with a revised production of Pamela Parker's play A Very Second Samuel Christmas tonight, November 16 at 7:30pm and November 17 at 2pm.
The group presented the world premier of the play in 2012 as a work shopped production. The occasion was a Christmas miracle of sorts as Parker resisted writing a Second Samuel sequel for many years. "People have asked me to write a Christmas play featuring the characters of Second Samuel, but I told them it would never happen. Then the folks at the Wetumpka Depot asked. Who could say no to them?" said Parker referring to the Wetumpka troupe who traveled Second Samuel to a nationwide theatre festival in 2011. Depot audience members enjoyed the 2012 production so much that The Players put it back on the season to wrap up their 2013 line up of shows. The play focuses on B Flat and the other colorful residents of Second Samuel, GA as they prepare for the town's annual Christmas pageant. While nothing in the pageant works out as they expected, the residents of the small town still manage to light the way for their very own Christmas miracle. The play is full of the charm and humor of the original Second Samuel play as well as beautiful and poignant moments that Parker penned for the new work.
