Red Mountain Theatre Kicks Off Statewide Tour of LETTER FROM BIRMINGHAM JAIL Today
In celebration and remembrance of events 50 years ago, Red Mountain Theatre Company (RMTC) is taking its dramatic interpretation of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Letter from Birmingham Jail" across the state. Based on an original concept by RMTC Executive Director Keith Cromwell, these performances feature dramatic readings of "An Appeal for Law and Order and Common Sense" and "A Call for Unity," two letters written by a group of clergymen from which the famous "Letter from Birmingham Jail" was inspired during DR. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s incarceration in 1963.
RMTC's show manager, Jesse Bates, along with actor Cecil Washington in the role of Martin Luther King, Jr. are performing "Letter from Birmingham Jail" at various locations in Alabama through November. Local community members will read the roles of the clergy members. Each performance will be followed by an interactive discussion with the audience.
