MACBETH UNDERWORLD to Play at The Mint The new opera, Macbeth Underworld, will play at The Mint Sept. 20 through Oct. 5.

Just four years after Penthesilea , his previous creation, Pascal Dusapin delivers a new opera, in response to an order from La Monnaie. With his librettist Frédéric Boyer, he plunges into the darkest regions of the human soul with the help of two characters among the most emblematic of evil in man: the Macbeth couple.

Thomas Jolly, the young French prodigy of the Shakespearean repertoire, directs the direction while Alain Altinoglu displays the dramatic intensity as well as the vocal and orchestral richness of the score. A Gothic opera where the characters are confronted with their spectral reality that comes back to haunt their memory and ours.

The cast features Magdalena Kozena and Sophie Marilley as "Lady Macbeth," Georg Nigl as "Macbeth," Ekaterina Lekhina, Lilly Jordstad and Christel Loetzsch as "Three Weird Sisters," Kristinn Sigmundsson as "Ghost," Graham Clark as "Wear," Christian Rivet as "Archiluth" and Elyne Maillard and Naomi Tapiola as "Child."

The creative team includes Alain Altinoglu (Music Direction), Thomas Jolly (Director), Bruno De Lavenere (Set Design), Sylvette Dequest (Costumes), Antoine Travert (Illuminations), Katja Kruger (Dramaturgy), Alexander Dain (Artistic Collaboration), and Martino Faggiani and Alberto Moro (Heads of Chorus).
