Jason Robert Brown is a trendsetter in the world of modern musical theatre. His most memorable work, The Last Five Years, will be brought to life in Catonsville by two incredible actors: Stephen Deininger and Brett Hurt. The show will take place on July 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21 at 8 pm and July 15 and 22 at 3 pm. Wendy Meetze directs. All performances will be taking place at Rice Auditorium, 55 Wade Avenue, Catonsville MD 21228. $15 general admission and $13 for students, seniors, veterans and active military. To purchase tickets, visit www.heritageplayers.com. A portion of the show’s proceeds will be donated to the Baltimore Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation www.wish.org and the Spring Grove Hospital Fund.

Brett Hurt (Cathy Hiatt) attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas and holds a degree in Journalism. Born and raised in Houston, Brett moved to the DC area almost a year and a half ago. She has been actively performing with the Bay Theatre Company and The Rude Mechanicals, and is currently working on a one-woman cabaret show called A Walk in My Shoes, to be performed a few times over the summer.

Stephen Deininger (Jamie Wellerstein) is currently Music Directing and playing Tateh in Ragtime for The Laurel Mill Playhouse. He has recently been seen as Max in The Heritage Players' acclaimed farce Lend Me a Tenor, directed by Damien Gibbons. Prior to that engagement, he was a rivoting Col. Jessup in A Few Good Men, directed by Heritage Players' President, Katie McIntyre Sheldon.

Wendy Meetze (Director) attended Virginia Tech as a Theatre Major and concentrated in Musical Theatre and Vocal Jazz. Wendy recently played the leading role of Jenny Wilson in a staged reading of maXam Production Group’s Broadway-bound musical It’s Your World, directed by Paul Eiseman. Her favorite directing projects include Disco Inferno, Smokey Joe’s Café, and Into the Woods.

The Last Five Years is an emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. Her story starts at the end of her marriage and moves backwards in time. His begins on the day they met and moves forward. The two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show. JRB won Drama Desk Awards for the music and the lyrics after the Off-Broadway premiere in 2002 starring Norbert Leo Butz and Sherie Rene Scott. The show has since been produced at almost every major regional theater in the US, and has been seen in the UK, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Spain.

Since its inception in 1975, The Heritage Players, Inc. has offered good family entertainment at affordable prices to the community. The Heritage Players’ productions include dramas, mysteries, comedies and musicals, some well-known and some original scripts by talented local writers.

In the spring of 1996, THP moved to Catonsville United Methodist Church from Ames United Methodist Church in Pikesville. Since the move, they have been able to produce a wide variety of shows, from hit musicals like Oklahoma and Into the Woods, to smash Broadway plays like Noises Off! They have also offered Shakespeare productions performed at the nearby Lurman Woodland Theater.

The Heritage Players have always aimed for excellence in performance while providing a climate for growth in the theatrical experience of our members, and have always believed in philanthropy for the benefit of the community. Since 1975, THP have donated over $38,000 to charitable organizations in the Baltimore metropolitan area. What makes these donations even more special is that the cast and crew for each main stage show choose the charity that will receive the benefit from their dedicated hard work.

In August 2008, THP moved to the Rice Auditorium at the Spring Grove Hospital in Catonsville.
