The Church of the Good Shepherd, in association with The Ruxton Players, is staging the play, Hobson's Choice, by Harold Brighouse, at its location, 1401 Carrollton Avenue, Ruxton, to honor the Church's Centennial.
Hobson's Choice will be presented on Fridays, February 26 and March 5, and Saturdays, February 27 and March 6, at 8PM, and Sundays, February 28 and March 7 at 2PM. The production is under the direction of Bill Kamberger ("Baltimore 's Best Stage Director," The City Paper). The Ruxton Players were a fixture of the Baltimore theater scene from the 1920s to the 1960s. The revival of this group honors the Church's Centennial. Hobson's Choice is a beloved British comedy that was voted one of the 100 greatest plays of the 20th century in a poll sponsored by the National Theatre of Great Britain. A classic film version, directed by David Lean and starring Charles Laughton, was recently released on DVD. The play remains very popular with British theater groups, and has been successfully revived at Toronto's Shaw Festival and Off-Broadway, but has not had a Baltimore production in several decades.
