THE BALTIMORE WALTZ, 'ANTIGONE PROJECT' and More Set for Rep Stage's 2015-16 Season

Rep Stage, the professional regional theatre in residence at Howard Community College (HCC), proudly announces its 2015-16 season lineup.

"The Year of the Woman" celebrates contemporary female voices in American theatre, with an entire season of plays by women playwrights. The season will include a world premiere as part of the Women's Voices Theater Festival, two regional premieres, and a production celebrating the 25th anniversary of a contemporary classic.

"The Baltimore Waltz" by Paula Vogel

Vogel's fantastical farce traces the European odyssey of sister and brother Anna and Carl, in search of romance and a cure for her terminal illness, the fictitious ATD (Acquired Toilet Disease) she contracted by using the bathrooms at the elementary school where she teaches. Critically acclaimed by the New York Times as "a crazy-quilt patchwork of hyperventilating language, erotic jokes, movie kitsch that spins before the audience in Viennese waltz time, replete with a dizzying fall," Rep Stage is proud to present this Obie Award-winning play during the 25th anniversary year of the original workshop production.

Maxine, a book smart teenager, is caught between her older sister, a wounded soldier who just returned from the war in Iraq, and her ailing grandmother with a flair for American musicals. With the help of her new imaginary friends-Lorelei Lee and Dorothy Shaw from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes"-Maxine secretly creates a dating profile for her sister and successfully sets her up with another wounded vet. Life takes a turn when her grandmother announces she'll be ending her life and wants her family to support her final wish by throwing her a goodbye party. With that, Maxine has to grow up fast. Rep Stage is proud to present this world premiere as part of the Women's Voices Theater Festival.

Five award-winning female playwrights bring five very different explorations of Sophocles' tragedy to life. "The Antigone Project" reconsiders this classic story from a variety of rich and radical perspectives of race, class and gender. With such settings as World War I, a modern African Village and the underworld of Hades, we see a sister's love and devotion through many lenses in a work that The New York Times lauded as "engaging, seductive and wildly divergent."

Four New Yorkers seek shelter-both physical and spiritual-in a variety of temporary abodes and in one another in this smart and sexy comedy. Named as one of the Ten Best Plays by New York Magazine and lauded by Variety for its "bracing wit and intelligence," the play recasts the old relationship questions as real-estate issues-who will move in with whom and what will be the price of this commitment? Berman finds a fresh and funny way of examining the trials and tribulations of being on your own in a bewildering existential landscape.
