The plot weaves through twists and turns unpredictably. The play has remained popular and attracted accomplished actors Lee Remick, Robert Duvall, Honor Blackman, Marisa Tomei, Quentin Tarantino, among others. The 1967 film featured Audrey Hepburn, Alan Arkin, and Richard Crenna. The climactic scene is famous for being done completely in the dark.
