Silver Spring Stage Presents WAIT UNTIL DARK, 10/29-11/20

Silver Spring Stage presents the suspenseful Wait Until Dark, directed by Sean Butler and produced by Marcia Kolko, where drug dealers who trace a doll with their stash to the apartment of a blind woman, resulting in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Wait Until Dark will perform weekends October 29 to November 20.

Silver Spring Stage is located in the Woodmoor Shopping Center, lower level (next to the CVS) at Colesville Road and University Boulevard. Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $18 for seniors/students. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 8:00 PM, Sundays on November 7 and 14 at 2:00 PM and October 10 at 5:00 (note the special time).  The Tony Award nominated Wait Until Dark was a hit on Broadway in 1966. Written masterly by Frederick Knott, a British playwright most known for the play and film Dial M for Murder, the play is designed with deception and deceit on a supposedly vulnerable young woman. The plot weaves through twists and turns unpredictably. The play has remained popular and attracted accomplished actors Lee Remick, Robert Duvall, Honor Blackman, Marisa Tomei, Quentin Tarantino, among others. The 1967 film featured Audrey Hepburn, Alan Arkin, and Richard Crenna. The climactic scene is famous for being done completely in the dark. To duplicate this suspense, at its first release, movie theaters dimmed their lights to their legal limits, then turned them off one by one until each light on-screen was shattered, resulting in the theater being plunged into complete darkness. Silver Spring Stage audiences will be plunged into utter delight and fright - just in time for Halloween - with Wait Until Dark.

Susy Hendrix (Michelle Johncock) is a recently blinded housewife living in New York City's Greenwich Village happily with her husband Sam (Michael Fisher). The one annoyance in her life is the girl Gloria (Leah Show and Brianna Lattanzio) who lives upstairs, who likes Sam and enters their apartment unannounced. Sam goes out of town and Susy's life is unexpectedly turned upside when she's visited by three strange men. Mike (Tom McGrath) says that he's a friend of Sam in town dropping by for a visit. Harry Roat (Eric Stein) arrives with news that Sam has been accused of drug smuggling with heroin stashing in a doll. He threatens her that the only way Susan can help Sam is by finding the doll and turning it over to him. Susy enlists Mike's help. He calls the cops and Sergeant Carlino (Greg Crowe) arrives to investigate. Are these men who they say they are? Will the only person Susy can truly rely upon be Gloria? Audiences will have to see to find out what is waiting in the dark.

The cast also includes Michael Galizia as a police officer. The production team includes Lizzie Albert (Assistant Director), Jack Butler (Set Design), Sean Butler (Sound Design), and Rebecca Proch (Costume and Prop Design).

The Stage's 2010-2011 season continues with holiday family special A Christmas Carol (Dec. 10-Dec. 19), engrossing Blackbird (Jan. 7-Jan. 29), passionate Romeo and Juliet (Feb. 18-Mar. 12), hilarious The Farndale Macbeth (Feb. 1-Feb. 23), elegant Three Days of Rain (May 13-Jun. 4), and exciting One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Jun. 24-July 23).
