The Recipients of Howard County Arts Council's 2011 Arts Scholarship Program were announced at the Arts Council's 14th Annual Celebration of the Arts in Howard County.

Recipients of a $3,000 scholarship were Michelle Chang, Visual Art, a senior at Centennial High School; Kayleigh Decker, Vocal Music, a senior at Marriotts Ridge High School; Sarah Lewis, Visual Art, a senior at Reservoir High School; and Shing Ann Yeh, Instrumental Music, a senior at Centennial High School. Recipients of a $1,000 scholarship were Brenna Dames, Dance, Mt. Hebron High School; Chris Hepner, Visual Art, Glenelg High School; and Brian Tich, Creative Writing, Marriotts Ridge High School. Scholarship funds will be used for enrollment in an accredited college program for a degree in the arts, and are sent directly to the registrar or bursar's office at the university of the recipient's choice.

Each applicant was reviewed based on the following criteria as demonstrated in work samples and other application materials submitted: artistic merit, demonstrated understanding of artistic discipline, ability of the student to articulate artistic concepts and influences, commitment to a career in the arts, and a successful record in an academic setting.

These seven students demonstrated incredible skill and passion for their disciplines and a true commitment to the arts and an arts education.

The 2011 Arts Scholarship is made possible through funds raised for the Arts Council's annual fundraiser, the Celebration of the Arts in Howard County.
