Glass Mind Theatre Presents Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom

By: Mar. 08, 2011

Glass Mind Theatre presents Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom, a new play by Jennifer Haley, which premiered at the Humana Festival of New American Plays in 2008. Glass Mind is excited to bring this thrilling piece to Baltimore for the first time, and to welcome guest director Mary O'Connor, Producing Artistic Director of Lights Out Theatre Company in Chicago.

Neighborhood 3 explores what happens when teenagers of a perfect suburban subdivision become obsessed with a violent video game that uses satellite images of their own neighborhood as the game's setting. As the teens get closer to defeating the army of zombies - some of whom look remarkably like their parents - the line between real and virtual life begins to blur.

This will be the third play in Glass Mind's Season One, which is designed to explore the connections we make: interpersonal, intrapersonal, and, in the case of Neighborhood 3, techno-personal. GMT Artistic Director Andrew Peters says, "I'm extremely excited for this company to tackle Haley's work, not only because it's an extremely well-written, darkly comic play, but because it uses a technological phenomenon to examine modern suburban disconnect."

In keeping with GMT's history of theatre "event nights", there will be three events associated with Neighborhood 3. Friday, March 11, guests are invited to a post-show Opening Night Boh-st (Boh toast) after the 8pm performance.

Sunday, March 13, audiences are invited to a Potluck for Suburban Professionals in line with Neighborhood 3's commentary on suburbia. Guests are invited to bring a dish and dress up in their "yuppiest" duds. One dish merits a $3 discount on tickets. The event will occur at 6:15 before the 7pm show. Sunday matinee-goers may also return with a program to participate in the party.

Finally, on Saturday March 19 audiences are encouraged to revisit high school and the after life with GMT's Zombie Spring Semi-Formal. Those dressed in school dance or zombie attire - or a combo - will enjoy reduced ticket prices ($7). There will be food, drinks, music, and a costume contest following the 8pm show.

Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom will take place at Load of Fun Theatre (LOF/T), 120 W. North Ave, Baltimore MD, on March 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 at 8pm and March 13 and 20th at 2 pm and 7pm. Tickets are $10 at the door; to reserve tickets please email boxoffice@glassmindtheatre.com. For any questions email contact@glassmindtheatre.com or visit www.glassmindtheatre.com

Glass Mind Theatre Company was formed in 2009 by a group of young Baltimore-based theatre artists who seek to foster the interaction of both Baltimore commercial and non-traditional artists in order to create new forms of expression, while also acting as a focal point for bold, young local artists to train, grow, and prosper.
