Forum Theatre Closes SCORCHED 10/23

By:

Scorched by acclaimed Lebanese-Canadian playwright Wajdi Mouawad, translated by Linda Gaboriau and directed by Michael Dove, will open Forum Theatre's seventh season and second year as the resident company of Round House Theatre Silver Spring. A theatrical tour-de-force, translated into a dozen languages in over 200 productions worldwide, Forum will be the first D.C. Theatre Company to present Mouawad's work.

Five years ago, Nawal Marwand returned from a war crimes trial and never spoke again until the day of her death. Now, her odd dying wishes send her twin children, Simon and Janine, on a journey to her Middle Eastern homeland - and deep into their own past. Charged with delivering letters to a father that they thought was dead and a brother that they never knew existed, the twins must unravel the story of their own origins and unearth the source of their mother's silence.

A dark mystery story, spanning fifty years and two continents, Scorched explores the limits of forgiveness and love.

Fierce and wildly ambitious, Scorched epitomizes the epic scope and style that have become Forum's hallmark. Scorched will also feature the largest cast assembled on a Forum stage in nearly three seasons. "We are thrilled to introduce such a gifted and exciting writer to DC audiences. Wajdi Mouawad has written a beautiful play about the capacity to forgive," says Artistic Director Michael Dove. In regards to Forum's 2010/2011 season (the company's 7th), Dove says "Scorched kicks off our series of plays about home and the meaning of community. In an area where so many residents come from all over the world, I'm excited about the conversations we will be having throughout the season."

Featuring Forum Company Member Alexander Strain*, with Rachel Beauregard, Rena Cherry Brown, Maboud Ebrahimzadeh, Tina Ghandchilar, Dana Levanovsky, Scott McCormick, Amy McWilliams*, and Joseph Thornhill.

The Scorched creative team includes scenic designer Lisi Stoessel, lighting designer Brian Engel, costume designer Deb Sivigny, sound designer Christopher Baine, fight choreographer Cliff Williams III, and production stage manager Stephanie Junkin.

Scorched runs September 30 to October 23 at Round House Silver Spring. Tickets are $25 for all performances ($20 for seniors, groups, and Round House subscribers; $15 for students and patrons under 30). To purchase, visit www.forumtheatredc.org or call the Round House box office at 240-644-1100.
