Baltimore's Theatre Project Announces 2017/18 Season

Original works by Guest Artists, Resident Artists, and productions from other talented Baltimore companies highlight Theatre Project's 47th Season!
New and innovative works in theatre, dance, music, opera, puppetry, film, variety, and more.
Guest Artists
Since 1971 Theatre Project has presented an array of wonderfully talented artists from across the country and around the world. This season's Guest Artists include companies and individuals from the UK, DC, and New York.
In October, we welcome DC based ClancyWorks Dance Company, collaborating once again with the Coppin State University Dance Ensemble and the local community for a series of concerts and master classes.
Also in October, the Helen Hayes Award-winning Happenstance Theater (Cabaret Noir and Impossible! A Happenstance Circus) is back with Manifesto! A DaDA CLoWn MANiFESTatiON.
Sinking Ship Productions
Following a successful and critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway run, Sinking Ship Productions makes their Baltimore debut in December with their original adaptation of Franz Kafka's A Hunger Artist. A man sits alone in a cage, starving himself for your entertainment. What begins as a simple nostalgic story transforms into a startlingly inventive, darkly comic trip into the nature of memory, art, performance, and spectatorship.
In February, the all-male repertory dance company 10 Hairy Legs will make its Baltimore debut with Exploring the Artistry of the Male Dancer. Formed in 2012, the mission of 10 Hairy Legs is to advance the understanding of the male role in dance through the creation, acquisition and performance of exceptional work.
Single Shoe Procutions
Also in February, London-based Single Shoe Productions, returns to the U.S. with their brand new devised show, A Disappearing Act. The great magician, Philip Winterbottom, cordially requests your presence for his final act. Sadly, he's dead. So... he won't be there. But, he's left his son and assistant very clear instructions for his memorial. Combining cheesy magic, exuberant music and audience participation, A Disappearing Act is a witty, inventive and sometimes awkward exploration of our mortality, the rituals we use to accept it and say goodbye to the ones we love.
Happenstance Theater
Just in case you can't get enough of Happenstance Theater, they will be back in March with an exclusive, limited run of a brand new show, SLAPSTCK JUKEBOX. Noted for their physical comedy and precise ensemble work, the company recasts free-standing material from their repertoire along with new works informed by great comedy of the past: 19th Century European Circus entrées, Vaudeville, silent film, and early television. A playful new format will structure the material and enhance the audience experience. It will be fun for the whole family!
To round out our Guest Artist Series, The Jim Henson Foundation Grant awarded company Alex and Olmsted (Happenstance ensemble members Alex Vernon and Sarah OlmsTEd Thomas) present the World Premiere of Homebodies, a new show that explodes the concepts of house and home. Centered around a 30 cubic inch puzzle box that has trick doors and amenities, Alex and Olmsted combine physical comedy and puppetry to unlock the house of the imagination.
Resident Artists
Each season Theatre Project proudly presents the compelling and extraordinary work of its Resident Artists; individuals and companies that make Theatre Project an artistic home.
Kicking off the 2017/18 season is High Zero, the premier festival of Improvised, Experimental music on the East Coast, celebrating its 19th year.
We also welcome back Iron Crow Theatre, who will be presenting their 2017/18 season here, including productions of The Cradle Will Rock, The Goodies, Cloud 9, Corpus Christi, and The Laramie Project.
Peabody Chamber Opera returns in February with Out of Darkness: Two Remain, an opera based in part on the true stories of two Holocaust survivors: Polish dissident Krystyna Zywulska and the gay German Jew, Gad Beck.
Baltimore based, award-winning performance artist Naoko Maeshiba, has collaborated with Rohaizad Suaidi with a brand new work entitled da da da Pas de Duex, which will premiere in March

Also in March, Vincent E. Thomas/VT Dance presents In the Company of Men ... Part III, an incredible evening of dance art embracing themes of masculinity, life, love, social awareness, and human-ness.
For April, The Collective has created a welcoming environment for experiencing dance as an every body experience through their newest creation and premier of SENSES: A broadly accessible dance performance. The work produced for SENSES provides multiple points of entry through a variety of sensory experiences paired with dance. Senses such as touch, taste, smell will be incorporated throughout the performance in an attempt to shift the perception of who dances and how dance is experienced.

The new season will also feature many other local artists including AMillionMees Productions, presenting the one-woman play Pharaoh: The Female King of Egypt, and the Charm City Kitty Club with their spicy variety show Fifteen Years of Queer.
Ashani Dances
One of Baltimore's newest dance companies Ashani Dances, who debuted here last season, returns with a brand new show Five! featuring original music by Marc Avon Evans.
Rapid Lemon Productions, known for their short play series The Variations Project, will present Love is a Blue Tick Hound, a collection of four one-acts by Audrey Cefaly, as part of the 2018 Women's Voices Theater Festival, and Palindrome, a world premiere of two one-acts about Thelonius Monk & Marvin Gaye.
Other local artists include, for one night only, Devin McCord and Adam Narimatsu, with the premiere showing of their new film Clown Under the Bed: Episode 2, the sequel to their award-winning comedy Clown Under the Bed. BlueShift Dance presents Drawing the Universe, their collaborative dance concert with Lucid Beings Dance, Sylvana Christopher, and BIDA (Baltimore Independent Dance Artists.) And Charm City Fringe Festival comes back to Theatre Project with Nights on the Fringe, featuring Puppetry, Circus Arts, Theatre, Acrobats, music and more.

If you are someone who likes to sample a little of everything, choose our Standard Flex Pass, valid for 6 admissions to most Theatre Project shows (special events and other special engagements excluded.) Price: $100 ($85 for Seniors 65 and over)
And for those of you who want it all, and who doesn't, the All Access Pass gives you two admissions to most every Theatre Project show (special events and other special engagements excluded.) Price: $200
