Adam Frank Named Managing Director of Baltimore Center Stage

Adam Frank Named Managing Director of Baltimore Center Stage

Adam Frank comes to Baltimore Center Stage from Waterwell, a civically-engaged theater and arts education non-profit in New York City.

Experienced non-profit arts leader Adam Frank will join Baltimore Center Stage as Managing Director. Frank will assume the role beginning December 13, 2022.

"We're beyond thrilled to welcome Adam Frank to Baltimore," said Sandy Liotta, President of Baltimore Center Stage (BCS) Board of Trustees. "From an extensive list of qualified candidates, Adam was selected for his track record of empathetic management, operational rigor, community outreach and support for vibrant, ambitious theater. We're excited to work with Adam and Stephanie to continue to activate our theater's spaces as a civic hub and an engaging home for artists, audiences and all forms of artmaking in the local community."

Adam Frank comes to Baltimore Center Stage from Waterwell, a civically-engaged theater and arts education non-profit in New York City, where he has served as Managing Director since 2018. There, his initiatives helped grow the impact and sustainability of a company focused on innovative partnerships with advocates outside the arts. He catalyzed revenue growth that doubled the organizational budget, led the company through the pandemic with no staff furloughs or layoffs, and, in collaboration with artistic leadership, developed vibrant programming partnerships with immigration advocates, labor organizers, and military veterans.

In addition to his work at Waterwell, Frank has served in general management, marketing, and artistic capacities at theaters and festivals on both coasts of the United States, including The Public Theater, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Yale Repertory Theatre, and the Los Angeles Music Center. Frank holds an MFA in Theater Management from the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale and an MBA from Yale School of Management. He has served in a volunteer capacity training business students for nonprofit board service and as a board member of Columbus House, a regional provider of homelessness services in New Haven, CT.

Stephanie Ybarra, Artistic Director, said, "Adam is a brilliant choice for this moment in BCS's evolution. His experience in supporting new work and community-engaged programming is matched only by his incredible vision for what a theater can be going forward. I'm feeling like the luckiest Artistic Director to get to work in partnership with him."

Frank's appointment comes at pivotal moment in BCS' history as a leading arts institution and the largest non-profit theater company in the State of Maryland. Currently celebrating its 60th Anniversary Season, BCS has renewed its commitment to its community of artists, organizations, thought leaders, and neighbors by innovating new ways to facilitate access to the arts. Through its mainstage productions, civic programs, educational activity and community-driven partnerships, Baltimore Center Stage is committed to expanding the role of theater as a catalyst for change in Baltimore and beyond.

"I am thrilled and honored to be joining Baltimore Center Stage," said Adam Frank. "BCS is an institution that creates beauty and belonging, making great theater that builds bridges and community in powerfully innovative ways. I could not be more excited to join Stephanie and the extraordinary BCS staff and board as we nurture and grow that mission to be more equitable, sustainable, and accessible. Baltimore has been warm and welcoming to me and my family, and we can't wait to explore the city and put down roots."
