TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD Comes To Stageworks Theatre 4/2010

In March of 2010, Stageworks Theatre will debut its long-awaited permanent home in the Channel District with the highly acclaimed classic, To Kill a Mockingbird. After long deliberation, it was decided that To Kill a Mockingbird is the play that clearly reflects the message of diversity and social injustice that Stageworks Theatre has been promoting throughout our 27-year history.

Goodman Theatre Presents BOLEROS FOR THE DISENCHANTED 6/20 - 7/26

Goodman Theatre proudly concludes its 2008/2009 season with José Rivera's newest play, Boleros for the Disenchanted, 'an epic study of wedded life that is simply?and not so simply?marvelous' (Variety). A true love story inspired by Rivera's parents' courtship and eventual migration from Puerto Rico to Alabama, Boleros for the Disenchanted makes its Chicago premiere directed by Henry Godinez?the Goodman's Resident Artistic Associate who was named 2008 Latino of the Year by the Chicago Latino Network. Chicago actors Elizabeth Ledo and Sandra Marquez command the stage in the role of Flora, based on Rivera's mother, at various points in her life. Godinez's cast also includes Liza Fernandez, Joe Minoso, Rene Rivera and Felix Solis. Boleros for the Disenchanted is performed in English in the Albert Theatre June 20 ? July 26, 2009. South Coast Repertory will present The Brand New Kid, a musical lesson in tolerance and acceptance, adapted from Emmy Award-winning author Katie Couric's book, as part of its Theatre for Young Audience (TYA) series. Directed by Shelley Butler, with book by Melanie Marnich, music by Michael Friedman and lyrics by both, The Brand New Kid will run May 29 through June 14 on the Julianne Argyros Stage. Low-priced previews are available May 29 - June 5. Opening day is June 6. Press performance is May 31 at 2:00 p.m. All children who attend the 11:00 a.m. Target Family Performance on Saturday, June 6 will receive a free gift. The uniquely conceived initiative, with funds earmarked specifically for emerging filmmakers of African nationality and residence, offers eligible and participating filmmakers the chance to be awarded $10,000 in financing for pre-production, production, and/or post-production on their narrative short film made in continental Africa and tapping into the resources of the film industry there. Brava! for Women in the Arts celebrates the completion of its first theatrical season under the new direction of Artistic Director, Raelle Myrick-Hodges, with a special end of the year event. ?Seven plays in Seven months. We have plenty to celebrate,? says Artistic Director Raelle Myrick-Hodges,? We went from producing one production every few years to seven productions this season alone. We hired over 175 local actors, directors and production artists and I believe we have a ton to be proud of ? particularly during this economic climate.? Brava?s 2008-2009 season was a surprise, with two World Premieres, three Regional Premieres, and an extension of its education program with two Main Stage productions. The company also presented series of special events including a musical performance Trios Los Panchos, an Evening with L Word?s creator Ilene Chaiken and Martin Luther King celebration the night before the first African American president of the United States was inaugurated.
