Porchlight Music Theatre, Chicago's musical theatre leader, celebrates the company's 15th Anniversary with an updated version of one of the most popular hits in the company's history, Macabaret. The production, with music and lyrics by Robert Hartmann and Scott Keys, runs for two weekends only -Thursday, October 22 through November 1, 2009, at Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 W. Belmont Ave.

Turtle Shell Productions is extending a successful run of ?Summer Shorties ? Summ-Ar Not? under a new name, Summer Shorts Fall Briefs, 20 exciting original short plays, written by innovative playwrights from across the country and internationally. The event has two separate nights of performances that cater to adults and children. Previews begin on September 25.

TCG?s fifth annual Free Night of Theater will have its NYC launch with a day-long celebration in Union Square on October 15 from 12:00PM until 6:00PM. Topping last year?s event in scope, scale and vision, this Union Square Free Night of Theater Celebration will have booths, art installations, and performances ? both scheduled and spontaneous ? as well as guest speakers including theatre artists and local politicians. The park will be transformed into a theatrical street fair with a performance stage and roving artists - under a canopy of colorful vibrant umbrellas. Programming for all ages will take place throughout the day and surprises are guaranteed. This event allows NYC theatre artists to come together as a community and share their gifts with the general public.

Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs Theater?s Incubator Program is designed to support the creation of new work by emerging Chicago theater companies. The evening showcase offers a glimpse at Striding Lions Interarts Workshop?s work in progress, Pioneers, developed during their month-long residency at DCA?s Studio Theater. The event will take place on Tuesday, September 29th at 7:30 pm at Chicago DCA's Studio Theater (78 E. Washington Street).

A Red Orchid Theatre announces the extension of the World Premiere of Mistakes Were Made by the Emmy-nominated writer of Six Feet Under Craig Wright and directed by Dexter Bullard. Cape Rep Theatre announces the final addition to the 2009 Indoor Theatre Season. A Class Act, the Broadway musical features music and lyrics by Edward Kleban and book by Linda Kline and Lonny Price. A Class Act will open September 17 and run for 5 weeks through October 18. Performances will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm with Sunday matinees at 2pm. The Christmas classic ?It?s A Wonderful Life? is the final show at Newnan Community Theatre Company in 2009. Auditions for the play are October 5 and 6 at the theatre. A large cast with roles for all ages is needed. No experience is necessary to audition for a part. Those auditioning will be asked to do a cold reading from the script. Auditions will begin at 7 pm. Actors may attend either evening to try out for a role. Callbacks are October 8. Rehearsals will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings.

Chapel Hill?s Deep Dish Theater will host its third ?Words to Music: Songwriters Up Close? event on Friday, October 2, at 8 PM. The special series showcases intimate acoustic performances and engaging conversation about the songwriting process with area musicians who defy the stereotypical singer-songwriter tag. This installment will feature three unique talents of the local music scene, one of which might be called a veteran; the others more aptly described as young upstarts.

PURE Theatre is set to present Up by Bridget Carpenter. The play is directed by PURE?s artistic director and co-founder Sharon Graci, and will feature R.W. Smith, Cristy Landis, Jon Raz Van Pinxteren, Carly Sumner Ridgeway, Rodney Lee Rogers, and Tara Denton. It will open Thursday, October 2, 2009 at Upper Lance Hall on the grounds of Circular Congregational Church, and run through Saturday, October 24.
