Fred Barton returns to the Metropolitan Room on Sunday, March 11, at 7:00 PM with his show FRED BARTON PRESENTS - AND THINKS YOU'RE GONNA LOVE IT! - in which he hosts, sings and plays with his 9-piece Broadway Band, bringing back classic Broadway show music, with some swing on the side. At each monthly performance, Fred features two of his favorite singers, with additional special guests.

Millennium Dance Studio, Inc., operator of the world-famous Millennium Dance Complex, announced today that it has formed a new subsidiary to develop franchised dance studios throughout the United States and eventually around the globe. Millennium Dance Franchising, LLC plans to sign agreements for 10 to 15 franchise units in its debut year. Ultimately, the company plans to have studios throughout the country and around the world, providing classes, lessons, studio rentals and parties with a focus on jazz, hip hop, tap, ballet and other forms of contemporary dance.

Bond Street Theatre returns to Afghanistan this month to help revitalize the theatrical arts and promote the use of theatre to bring information on health, civic rights, and other issues to areas of high illiteracy (90% for women, 63% for men, UN Report). In many areas, the company is preparing women to take the stage for the first time to reach all-female audiences.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater presents theaterjam3, a one-day festival featuring the work of many of the company's favorite playwrights, actors and directors. The brainchild of playwright Dael Orlandersmith, the all day event will take place at the Rattlestick Theater (224 Waverly Place - off Seventh Avenue South between West 11th & Perry Streets) on Sunday, March 11th. Doors will open at 1:30pm.

Trustus Theatre is preparing to open one of their most ambitious projects in years as the Obie Award-winning and Tony Nominated Passing Strange comes to the Midlands. Local visual artists, singer-songwriters, dancers, and theater artists are coming together to make Trustus' production a celebration of the intensely active arts scene in Columbia. Passing Strange opens Friday March 23rd, 2012 at 8:00pm on the Trustus Main Stage. The show runs through April 14th, 2012.

Kellen Alexander and Seth Dodson (of sethandkellen) co-host this comedic mini-conference at the Hideout. In the style of TEDtalks the speakers aim not to shine light on new ideas but to present speeches, powerpoints, pie charts and crayon 'drarwings' on topics such as "How Skipping Breakfast can be Good for Hunger" and "I'm Stupid: And that is None of Your Business". Our mission is to take the tension out of pretension and have a good old fashioned laugh without having to really learn anything.

The Traverse is gearing up for a celebration of new writing in a nine-day festival to be held at the Theatre in April, curated by recently appointed Artistic Director, Orla O'Loughlin. Write Here will feature a variety of new work at different stages of development which give a look behind the scenes to the work of the Traverse literary team and playwrights in a series of readings, talks, workshops and performance. The festival will take place April 16th-24th.

Chrysalis, a one-act play by emerging playwright Susan Hodara, will be making its radio broadcast debut on Friday, March 9 at 7 p.m. on New York station WBAI (99.5 FM) as part of their celebration of International Working Women's Day (IWWD). The play is produced by Two From the Aisle Productions, LLC, a theatrical production company co-founded by Susan Hodara and her partner, and husband, Scott Rosenblum.

The New Repertory Theatre announces a one-week extension of the National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere of Bakersfield Mist by Stephen Sachs. Originally set to perform in the Black Box Theater at the Arsenal Center for the Arts through March 18, the New Repertory Theatre and Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater co-production now runs through March 25, 2012.
